iani Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hi All, I bought a C3 1.1L 3 weeks ago and being the most basic model, it didn't come with a radio fitted. However, it apparently had all the wiring fitted so I thought that fitting a Citroen radio post-factory by a Citroen dealer to a Citroen car would be fairly easy. I bought the Clarion CD player from Citroen and arranged to have it fitted by the dealer. However, it is now apparent that although the wiring is in place the display from the radio will not be shown on the dashboard because the clock has been replaced and there is no way of putting in the clock with the radio details. So I have a radio but have no idea which station the radio is tuned to or which track the CD is playing. In fact any Citroen radio will have this problem because they all display their info on the dashboard which the C3 is unable to display. Bizarre. Just wanted to warn others. Ian Quote
Igloo_Vindaloo Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Sorry to hear about your radio hassles. When I put in a CD changer I had to take the car into a Citroen dealer to get the car to recognise it and for it to work at all. Isn't it amazing in this day and age that you can buy a new car without a radio. My friends were amazed my old basic model Metro came without a radio and that was 20 years ago! Quote
iannez Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 strange. i have never come across a c3 that did not have a radio as standard. Quote
toblerone Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 All MK2 facelifted c2/3 L models do not come with a radio as standard. Its detailed on the spec sheet. I thought a Citroen technician and citroen obsessive would have known this ?! ;) Quote
kfk Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 As a person who works within the dealer network i would have to say i was aware that you can by the vehicle minus the radio, but in all honesty i would have to say i hadnt considered what was required to put one in with regard to the display......but then no-one has ever asked! Having read the comments i would suggest that the vehicle is an ideal candidate to have an accessorie radio....this doesnt make use of the display. One day when i know all the answers to all the questions i will no doubt get paid a small fortune and be able to charge for my excessive knowledge. Until then i will tell what i know for free and if i dont know keep my gob shut. The good thing about free information is you dont have to give a refund if your wrong and the public whilst forgeting to thank you go away happy feeling they have all the answers. But what if you dont know?......well theres always someone to complain that you 'dont know nuffin'......truth of the matter is someone has to be first to make us go find out. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Time you pay extra for a radio to go in a C3 L just pay the extra for the Desire model instead. Citroen seems to sell more Desire models than L models. Quote
iannez Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 never checked spec sheet. just never seen a pdi come through with a hole in the dash. so they must be factory fitted??????? Quote
Guest Andrew Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Is there any documentation available on the protocol the radio uses to communicate with the display and the steering-wheel controls? It would be nice to know this so I could replace the radio with a small PC or something equally geeky.... :) Quote
