ifigureditout Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 ok, well i've finally got a test drive tomorrow in a petrol c4 vts and also a meg 225. I was just wondering what sort of things should i be looking for in regards to the c4? Josh Quote
Welshguy Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 If the C4 you will be driving is the one that you will be looking to buy, I'd just make sure that there are no nasty noises while driving - I.E tappets, suspension, engine. Other than that as long as the ride is reasonable then you look be looking good! I assume the Meg 225 is far more expensive, so remember to take that into consideration when you weigh up the pros and cons! Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 its not one i'm looking to buy. just looking for things to look for in general. and after the options and specs i want on both of them, the c4 costs more, just has cheaper insurance Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 its not one i'm looking to buy. just looking for things to look for in general. and after the options and specs i want on both of them, the c4 costs more, just has cheaper insurance I'd imagine the running costs of the C4 will be easier to accept fuel wise... If you drive in the dark make sure you set the adjustable headlamps ON Get an opertunity to blast it...you start to feel it coming on tap about about 3000rpm... Not worry about the 1st - 2nd gear change - you get used to it - if thats something that bothers you... Tidy interior/exterior... smooth clutch operation as can sometimes be a bit judery... Have heard lane departure isnt much cop Panoramic roofed version are pretty rare as chips And a decent colour! Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 not bothered about the lane departure system. panoramic roof would be nice, this one i'm testing doesn't had it but i would definately get it if i got a c4 Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 i realise its going to be an unfair comparison, i predict the megane will have it performance wise and handling yet the c4 will take it on the looks and interior Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 May be may be not....you still have to wind up that turbo..... What colour is the meager-ane? All I ever seem to see is that flippin tarzine inspired tangerine colour... Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 have you tried a Seat Leon FR?, or Skoda Octavia VRS?, bet the Renaults a very quick car though. dont forget though, they re all turbo, C4 VTS isnt Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Oh i know its unfair to compare speed and performance wise. But it will be good to help me decide whether i want raw performance or if i want the added luxury that i feel the c4 offers over the megane. People are seeing 270 bhp after a remap. its just this is going to be a huge purchase for me. And i need to think long term. Will i still be happy with the c4's performance in 4 years time. But my the same token will i still be happy and satisfied with the megane's bland interior in 4 years time. Quote
wozza Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 The turbo on the 225 meg is not that big as a result does not take long to spool up. So you get a lot more mid range torque over the C4 which has to be driven hard to get it to go. Same with most highish tuned small N/A motors though. Depend on which meg your driving some of them come with recaros etc but keep in mind there a few hundred extra usually. Which meg are you driving 225, 225cup? As the cup like the clio 182 has better suspension and tweaks on various other sections dampers springs etc to change the handling gives a much more involved drive and it is fairly quick. 6.5ish to 60 compared to the 8 seconds or so for the C4. But then again it does have 45bhp more and a lot more torque on the meg. Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Its a full fat 225 with cup packs. Really liking both cars. Just wish i could have the megane's performance with the c4's looks Quote
wozza Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Thats why im waiting to see what engines they bring out next. As the next C2 is probably gonna get the 1.6 turbo engine as well. Just a shame theres no 2.0 turbo unit coming to the C4...as far as i am aware. Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 yeah it is a shame. wish citroen would be more open and tell us a bit more. will let you all know how it goes. josh Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Just a shame theres no 2.0 turbo unit coming to the C4...as far as i am aware. Other than bolting a turbo on to the current 2.0 lump is there anyhting else/similar in the PSA range that could be used? With the assumption of the 1.6 Turbo engine being used in the C4, as my previous post, I'm not convinced where this will put the VTS in respect of all the other manufacturers top sporting models and how competitive it will be.... There is a Golf on the market with a 1.4 (167bhp) engine and a turbo and supercharger...just wondered if anything similar could be done with the new ranges? Link Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 yeah that golf has a clever engine. with regards to bolting on a turbo to the existing vts engine i have a feeling it would cost soooooo much Quote

ham's c4vts Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 The turbo on the 225 meg is not that big as a result does not take long to spool up. So you get a lot more mid range torque over the C4 which has to be driven hard to get it to go. Same with most highish tuned small N/A motors though. Thats what you get with a turbo over N/A,so really you cant compare cars together on performance (top speed and 0 to 60). And youll find most of the performance cars have to be driven hard to get them going. Its down to you if you need "raw" performance or just a quick N/A 2.0 litre, are you a bit mad and going to use the performance of the Renault (Rubbish)?Nice car though, and good luck with your choice of car what ever you get as theres a lot of nice cars out there. Quote
wozza Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Think most people would be quite happy with any car. The meg cup or trophy would easily take the others on a track i reckon. But the focus is nicer built. C4 comes in somewhere else being a bit slower but on a track theres not much in it. Think topgear did a test a few years ago with the C4 VTS against the 225, golf gti etc. Was only couple seconds behind the best one. Even though it had the only non turbo engine there and was the only one under 200bhp. There all good cars at the end of the day so whatever you decide your gonna have something fun to drive. Quote
ifigureditout Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 oh i've always said i'm not comparing the performance. their different types of cars and thats the choice i need to make. performance or comfort. Quote
c14vts Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Whilst in the vts imagine looking up in the night sky and seein the winter night stars from the non existant panoramic sunroof ........... Hold that thought till saturday or sunday and i will have the pics of my roof for u i promise  being very busy fitting kitchens, sorry  Oh yeah, also imagine it with nav, leather,JBL cos i doubt the 1 u will be driving will have it at all, makes all the difference :( P.S LDWS had this also fitted to mine used it once maybe twice £300 not very well spent i think <_< Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 P.S LDWS had this also fitted to mine used it once maybe twice £300 not very well spent i think <_< Have heard it tosh With all the road works/ contraflows this country has I'd imagine it gets confused. Quote

Plus, if you are half asleep or not paying attention and wandering over white lines you probably should not be driving anyway! :o Quote
Rich_Eason Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I dread to think what it is like if you the LDWS goes off plus going over the rumble strip in the solid white line on the motorway, if you dont wake up with that lot going off your pretty much dead. I'd agree with C4VTS, if you are stupid enough to feel tired enough that you nod off whilst driving, you shouldnt be driving. Quote
