Is someone having a laugh at me from a great height.

Got to work today, pulled up.

Pulled on handbrake and instead of the 2 or 3 notches , up it goes with no feel in it at all(no ratchet) until it gets almost vertical. Where 2 or 3 clicks as normal and it is held on the handbrake as usual.

Can anyone shed a little light on this.

I have left it in gear to make sure it does'nt roll away.

And it drives as it always has, no sqeaking, no scraping noises. Brakes perfectly and no warning lights either.

Even the braking light on the dashboard does not come on till your two thirds of the way into pulling the handbrake up.

sounds like one of the handbrake cables has become detached from the brake caliper........suggest you whip your front wheels off and have a look.

Yes i did say front!

Unfortunately cant get my wheel nuts off now and have just snapped my wheel brace trying.

However i have looked under the handbrake gaitor, two cables run either side but they are not level. Is this indicative of the cable coming away from the calipers.

With the handbrake on the car does try to pull to one side when raising the clutch when in gear. To the left when going forwards. Would this suggest the left calliper is gripping and the right is where the fault is.
