Marty Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I plan to fit my Sony MP3 CD head unit in place of the standard Citroen ICE tape player in the Blingo Multispace (2003 HDi).The car uses steering controls and the RDS uses the dash display to display the radio ststion. Now obviously I wont be able to use the dash diplay or steering controls (not really an issue as I lived without them when it was fitted in the Xantia) - But I am concerned that the removal of the radio and fitting of the Sony item will cause some problems with the rest of the cars electrical gubbinery - even though the handbook says that it used standard ISO connectors and shows a diagram of a Bling sans stereo. Anyone got any experience of upgrading the ICE and any problems as a result? Quote
wozza Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Should not have a problem and you should be able to get the controls and screen working with the new unit if you buy the adapter which is usually around £35. Quote

Cheers - will look for an adaptor, did try one once with the Xantia, but it never worked the steering controls and I just used them as basic "machine gun" buttons to anhialate traffic wardens and speed cameras ;) Quote
wozza Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 cant actually see one for use with the berlingo. Possible one of the other adaptors for the other cars may work with it though. Would be best off asking at the store. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk Quote
kfk Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Had a local garage fit an accessory radio into a berlingo recently, they bought it into us when various electrical problems occured. Removing it cured the problems. Quote
wozza Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Heard about the C2 doing similar some cars are fine with after market units some aren't. Quote
Guest CE05LDB Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Too many computers in these cars these days. My Citroen Dealer told me that as well. Quote
Marty Posted December 9, 2006 Author Posted December 9, 2006 Following a discussion on FCF, the advice being cut the multiplex wires and tape them off :( I think I shall just fit a Citroen CD head unit and try and find a multichanger to fit too - and go through the painfull job of converting all my MP3 Cd's to WAV <_< Quote
wozza Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Dont need to do that. Get a program like nero and in the wizard pick audio cd. Then just add mp3 tracks as you normally would it will encode them in .CDA for use in standard cd players. Quote
slasher Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 There's no need to cut wires! You can buy a wiring adapter, it looks something like this: http://i2.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/b0/89/7d_1_b.JPG That photo came from eScamBay where they are charging too much as usual, it's cheap from a Citroen dealer, cost me £3.50 All the adapter does is terminate the multiplex wire to nothing so it doesn't ever reach your aftermarket unit, and links the permanent live to the switched live. The Blingo radio doesn't have wiring for a switched live, unless you do want to cut wires and take a feed from somewhere else. I think the cigarette lighter is switched? I think most problems are caused because people have not been using the adapter, therefore 12v is blasted down the multiplex wire screwing up the electronics, then it's probably already too late!
