The Blaupunkt RD4 unit has 2 Aux outlets - 1 is used for the CD Multichanger which leaves 2 free unless you have a mobile phone kit fitted which doesn't work on Aux 1 - only Aux 2

Take a look at This FAQ for some images and wiring instructions

Presumably then, if I were to disconnect my cd changer, I could plug the 9706AG lead into that socket provided that I then have the output from this socket changed at the dealer, from 'CD Changer Present' (or something like that) to classic mode? This would allow me to re-attach the factory fit bluetooth to the other aux port (would rather have this and the ipod connector than the cd changer and the ipod connector!)

Must admit, I am a bit dubious as I still believe that on the RD4 head units, the CD changer output is dedicated - the only way to prove this is to have the cd changer present option turned off - I have tried plugging other items into this port before but its then ignored totally; I suspect this is because if the cd changer present option is enabled, it expects a signal from a certain pin in the port.

How amenable does anyone think a dealer would be to me asking for an hour to play on their computer with the settings?

just been looking on citroens web site

there is a usb connector for the ipod it utilises the cd changer socket and displays the track info on the screen and lets you change track via the standard controls on the cd player it also charges your ipod part num 9702EZ the bad news its £148 inc vat and you need the lexia to enable the aux port on the player

Like you, I believe there is lot of confusion over the port identification on the back of the RD4. It also depends which version of the RD4 you have as well. I'm all but certain you do not have to remove the the CD Changer to fit the simple 9706AG input (see below)

I have fitted the 9706AG input, which, because I do not have Bluetooth, is on port AUX1. If I had Bluetooth, the cable would be fitted using different terminal pins, and be on AUX2. These ports are not enabled by defualt and requires dealer to do it with their Lexia software.

Here is a link to the installation instructions. http://www.johndavies.mersinet.co.uk/CitC4/9706AG.pdf (3.5Mb)

Here is photo of the quadlock connector, which fits into the rear of the RD4.

You will see a gap in the top right. That is where I believe the connector to the CD Changer fits and the link for the new 9702.EZ The 9706AG is fitted to three pins in the bottom left, part of the "blue" sector.

The 9706AG is nothing more than a stereo sound input (Left, Right & Common) and requires a post pre-amp signal for best quality. An iPod has a very low power output and you will have to crank up the RD4's vol to max to hear it.

The CD Changer/9702.EZ connection supplies power to the external device, takes a sound input, and has bi-directional data stream for remote control and displaying track titles. AFAIK the car's ECU does need to be informed that a CD Changer is present, but I will find out for certain when I fit my 9702.EZ, not having a CD Changer.

£117.50 if you get them via the C4owners site as long as you are a premier member (£10). But gives you discount to lots of Citroen parts and accessories which come from a main dealer as well and many other after market parts from various suppliers.

I want to clarify the position on this it uses the dedicated CD changer socket, not the auxilliary

I actually have installed one and the USB BOX 9702.EZ plugs into the CD Multichanger socket on the back of the RD4 / RT4 head unit found in some Peugeots as well as the C2 C3 C4 and C4 Picasso which it also fits

If you have a CD multichanger already installed all you have to do is unplug it and plug the new USB BOX in - it's as simple as that

If you don't have a multichanger then it requires the CD changer enabling via a dealer

The USB box appears on the display as 'CD4' and with an iPod pluged in you can control all the functions from the steering wheel like volume, skip forward, mute etc.

Track display/names is from the radio buttons (or that's what I have found so far but not really had time to play around with it)

Unlike the simple cable that goes into the Aux socket and enabled on AUX 1 the USB box has no issue with volume and charges an iPod when connected

It will also work if you have navidrive fitted but won't display on the colour screen and should allow you to retain bluetooth as it uses the dedicated CD changer socket, not the auxilliary

I will add more detail to the ongoing forum thread c4owners.org but the installation guide / instruction books are in the download section 9702.EZ User Guide

Installation guide (Citroen) is in downloads Technical Info section and my own guide is in the Quick Facts section as a 9072.EZ personal fitting guide

Whilst disc changers are being mentioned a lot in here, although its an Ipod topic, I'd like to ask about the disc changer. What is a citroen part number for a C4 disc changer and also, who is the manufacturer of it and what is their part number?

The USB thing for the Ipod seem's the solution to have. Pricey but could solve everybodies Ipod woe's. Does this give you complete control over the Ipod that you can change album as well through the existing radio/steering wheel controls?

As the law is clamping down on us more and more, this seems like the ideal gizmo to stop me changing the Ipod over whilst driving which is bad, but I'm sure we're all guilty of it when you've got it on random play, the gf's sugar babes or girls aloud comes on and all you want to do is put a manly album on like Oasis or Stone Roses!!

It does indeed allow full control via the steering controls and also display folders etc on the main screen. Dave C4Owner has some pictures of his fitted on the other website and a lot more info since he actually has one.
