Guest Gary Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 This may be a stupid question but, does anyone know how to replace the UK passenger side "side light" bulb on a 2001 (Mk3?) Xsara? I've managed to remove the rear plastic cap, the compartment in question contains two bulbs, one with a push together retaining clip and the one i'm trying to change which doesn't, it doesn't seem to twist, pull or have a retaining clip (via a mirror). I have to say it's extremely tight, just getting two fingers into the hole due to reduced access from behind is difficult enough, the manual is next to no help, this can't possibly require a trip to the garage can it?... anyone successfully done this? Johndouglas Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Just last weekend I had to do the headlamp bulb on our Xsara - a b******* of a job. It helps if you get that wiring loom out of the way. Pull the red clip towards the engine then lift off the plug. To remove the side light, twist the bulb holder anti-clockwise, and the bulb is a push fit. Quote
Guest Gary Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Great! Yes, was wondering if that red clip was removable, will have another go at the weekend. Can't wait for the others to start going ;-) the other side seems almost as bad!... Thanks for the help! Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 No! the otherside is easier - although still not a lot of room. Plenty of sharp edges so have the Elastoplasts handy. Quote
Guest Gary Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Just in case anyone has a similar problem, after much struggling and bleeding I did finally manage to change the side light bulb thanks to the information previously provided. On mine the lamp holder is just pushed into a hole in the light assembly, bit like a cork in a bottle with no thread, removing the wiring connector to whatever is behind the light really did help as does unclipping the other bulb in that compartment, in the end it's simply a case of trying to twist one way, then the other and pull at the same time, it's stiff and difficult with just two fingers but is possible. xavtia Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 took mine to the dealers said how the heck you meant to get in to change the bulbs they said we'll do it charged me 57p on the plus said i had mine for 33 months and it was the only bulb ever replaced in that time Quote
