Guest 86mjarb02 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 WHEN WE DE-ACCLERATE AND THE CAR HITS 1000 REVS IT DECIDES TO DRIVE ON ITS OWN USUALLY IN SECOND GEAR. BEEN TOLD BY THE GARAGE THAT IT IS TICKING OVER TO STOP IT STALLING. I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS BUT THE CAR THEN CONTINUES TO DRIVE ON ITS OWN AFTER IT HAS ACCLERATED! ANYONE HELP OR KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THANKS Quote

wozza Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 At 1000rpm's your car is producing torque and power this is getting transferred to the wheels with it being a diesel there will be a fair amount of low end torque which will be moving you along. Its normal. Will likely get up to around 8 - 12mph in 2nd with out anything needing to be touched its useful in slow moving traffic though. My C4 is exactly the same. Quote
kfk Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 in the good old days vehicles lacked driveability. They would stall if in the wrong gear or judder on acceleration if in too high a gear. lets just say that the engine is in over run condition, slowing for a roundabout and your in second gear as you approach the roundabout......the engine rpm at this stage may drop below the threshold at which the 'anti stall' wants to kick in. However, regardless of the fact your happy driving in 2nd gear at 800rpm the engine management system will try to stop the engine stalling. In doing this it electronically increases the engine speed thus improving driveability. The Cure: - take notice of what gear your in and change down into 1st.....it will still do it but not as noticably......its normal. Having said its normal, i can demonstrate the customers fault but otherwise i never experience it myself, so driving style also plays a part i would suggest. Quote
