c14vts Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 ok someone explain this cos im a bit stupid why does the tailpipe of a 180hp vts petrol, nice chrome oval, which looks good and the diesel gets nothing more than a dodgy looking, bent down, rusty in no time ,1 WHATS THE REASON and y has no one sorted it yet :P <_< Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 If you look at any diesel car the majority of them all have pipes that bend down to the ground. I guess..... The only thing I can think of is that there must be either reg that stipulates this or the manufactures do this becuase if you were to walk past a diesel tail pipe whilst the engine running you get covered in crud? Much the same as you would on a petrol only worse probably! But then....busses and lorries that have low level exausts some go out the side or rear straight. <_< I have a nerd in work who loves these sorts of quesitons I can ask him, although it certainly wont be a short reply. :P Quote
CoolCarbon Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Nothing to do with Regs.... More down to costs... A friend of mine has a Merc E320 V6 diesel Sport that has a couple of nice looking Chromed Tailpipes... :P As for crud...both the outside AND inside of the exhaust on my new 1.6 HDi are spotless...must be the DPFS doing it's job... <_< Quote
Rich_Eason Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Yes...to clarify in my above assumptions, I wasnt implying ALL diesel cars run like tractors <_< :P Quote

kfk Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 You will find a lot of Citroen Diesel end pipes now face the floor if only for one reason......when the particle filter starts to regenerate the temperature of the exhaust gasses are likely to melt any bumpers surrounding them, and if by chance you happen to stand close behind it you will experience severe blistering! Quote
c14vts Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 thanx for that kfk its now stuck in the grey matter so when anyone asks they may wish they hadnt cos i will bore them Quote

Umm, but my previous Hdi VTR+ didn't have the DPFS and still pointed down.... <_< I still believe it has something to with money....surely the pipe would be fine if it were pointing directly backwards as in the VTS pipe... :P Quote
c14vts Posted January 27, 2007 Author Posted January 27, 2007 definately would look cool on the diesel or hot depending on how close u get <_< Quote
ham's c4vts Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 my mates Seat Leon FR tdi 170, points out the back as a pair of tailpipes, and just looked on the Devil site and all of the replacement back boxes for Diesels point out of the back?  Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Just been looking at the other forum and found this on the accesories bit. Anyone got it yet? Does it fit under the bumper as diesel VTS doesn't have a cut out like the petrol VTS. Dealer fit or DIY? Part No. 9400.J5 Chrome Exhast Trim: Diesel Models only Price £36.62 inc Vat http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n104/andrew_seal/extrim.jpg Quote
captainsensible Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I want one!! i think! Me too! It looks like it obviously fits under the bumper.... Quote
idlerobbo Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I want to see a real one on the car first though! fine line between lassy and chavvy! Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 just spoken to my dealer, works out at £45 inc VAT from him, suggests a 30 min fitting time but he had a look at the instructions and it looks as if its a sleeve that fits over the existing pipe then a U clamp to tighten 2 nuts so it could be done as a simple DIY part. I'm very tempted! Quote
idlerobbo Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Go sammy go! and take lots of nice pics for me! Quote
