Had a new set of tyres from Quick Fit, I wanted to wait until my service this thursday and get my Citroen dealer to do it, but the lease company don't want to pay Citroen prices.

Get to QF last friday, didn't have any tyres my size in stock, monday am told that they have Michelins in the C4's size, find out after they have replaced them that they didn't have the Exalto's so have fitted Premacys, told that they are not as good as the Exalto but the lease company have approved them.

To add insult to injury, there is now a very definate vibration in the steering. I noticed some posts that talked about wheel balance problems, as I'm putting the car into Citroens thursday anything I need to point out to them (in addition to getting them to check the wheel balance)??

This reminds me of why I never used S!*t Fit when I had my own car.

On about Kwik Fit go to the C3 section and read my topic to all C3 Exclusive owners.

You're lucky if it's only a slight vibration. I have had wheel judder for over a year since my front tyres were replaced by Kwikfit. Since then it has been to 4 other Kwikfits and 3 Citroen dealers, it is only in the last month I have found a Citroen dealer who can get the juddering to a bearable level, albeit nowhere near perfect. I have added this to the list of things which can't be fixed on the car and have lost all faith in Citroen.

I am having new front tyres fitted at work tomorrow by http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/

They claim to be able to balance Citroens......

"All our vehicle carry a special adaptor that allows us to balance centre less wheels found on many Renault (Rubbish), Citroen and Peugeot cars."

I have always had problems with wheel balancing, so it will be interesting to see if they do a good job.

Had my new tyres fitted by event-tyres.co.uk as above and the wheel balancing seems perfect now.

The tyres are Falken - 205/50 R17 [93W] - FK-452 and total cost £165.68

I chose the tyres as this one gets some good reviews and nearly half the price of Michelins.

Reviews here http://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tirebran...iremodel=FK-452

I am well happy.

How are you finding the Falkens???

I think these Michelins are ok in the dry, but flamin useless in the wet!!!

Did you get them from that website???

Tyre's for this car seem pretty expensive. I need 2 front ones soon. DOH!!

Hi Mike,

Got the Falken's fitted at work this afternoon by the company I posted above.

So far only driven 45 miles home from work, so they are still running in.

My main point was that my wheel balancing is great with no vibration from steering wheel which seems to be a big problem with the C4 as the regular tyre dealers seem incapable of balancing them properly.

The tyres have good reviews including this one..

"mercedes c 55AMG - 245/35/18 - This is the best tire for limited budget. Yes I know expensive car low cost tires but I had Bridgestones also. There is no big difference for me. Falken suprised me good."

Make sure you get the FK-452.

The Michelins are good but overpriced, as you are paying a lot just for the brand name.

Michelin = £300

Falken FK-452 = £166

Throwing my Two penneth in, now I've done a few hundred miles with the new Premacys I would say they are not as good as the Exaltos, I've let a few psi out so am now on 33psi on the front and will see if that improves them.

My Citroen dealer charged me £50 to check my wheel balancing. :o

They were better for a few weeks but just before I replaced the front tyres the vibration was back again at certain speeds.

I always charge for balancing if the tyres arn't bought from us.......and seeing as the customer at this stage is ussually more picky we roadtest to make sure balance problems are resolved.....this takes about an hour.

Next time you go shopping for tyres see if they have the correct tools to balance the wheel, if they havent make sure you dont get charged for balancing......or better still dont buy your tyres there.

see if they have the correct tools to balance the wheel

Is it something different to "normal" wheel balancing? If so, what question do we ask to make sure they have the correct equipment?

Thanks....

Can they balance a wheel without a hole in the middle as fitted to Citroen ?

They dont have a hole for the hub in them???

I cant remember what they look like under the hub cover, was a while ago that I took them off.

Some of the wheels dont have a hole in the centre of the hub, which as most of the wheel balancing equipment uses a long shaft, a flat hub and a taperred collar held together with a giant wingnut, you will find the wheel wont slide over it.

In this instance you nead a mounting flange that bolts to the wheel using your normal wheel fixing holes, some garages have a universal 'fits all' mounting flange which are better than nothing. We enquired as to how much for an adapter on our machine and at the time several years ago it wasnt deemed a worthwhile expense........so we had one made.

It works so well we have never replaced it.
