jase4538 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007  CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THIS ?? I HAVE AN 03 C8 2.2 HDI EXCLUSIVE. AT 49K I HAD ALARM SAYING DIESEL FILTER CLOGGED.AFTER A GOOD RUN THE ALARM DIDNT SHOW UP FOR A FEW WEEKS , BUT THEN ALARM SAYING DIESEL ADDITIVE MINIUMUM LEVEL COMES ON SOON AFTER START UP. I HAVE REPLACED THE DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER & HAD THE ELOYS FLUID CHANGED BUT ALARM STILL COMES ON SAYING MINIMUM LEVEL.BEEN TO DEALER & PUT ON DIAGNOSTIC BUT STILL WONT CANCEL.THEY HAVE SUGGESTED REPLACING ECU BUT NOT SURE THAT IT WILL BE THAT. I HAVE BEEN UNDERNEATH THE CAR MYSELF AND FOUND WHAT I THINK IS SENSOR ON ADDITIVE TANK & UNPLUGGED IT , BUT THIS HAD NO EFFECT STILL SAME.ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATRD!!! Quote
kfk Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Having had the eolys and particle filter replaced, the next stage is for the 'counters' to be reset within the computer to show this has happened......otherwise the computer thinks the tank is still empty and the particle filter is 'full'. After the counters have been reset the next stage is to have a 'forced regeneration' which initialises everything to work.....the regeneration is is a process that takes around 15 minutes and is conducted by the dealers computer controling the engine running through different rpm ranges. On completion of this a final important thing needs to be done. Take the car to the fuel station, undo the fuel cap (it has a magetic switch in it so the computer can see you have done this), then add a minimum of 10 litres of fuel, this makes the fuel gauge move and tells the eloys computer to ad some additive to the fuel tank. So have you or your dealer done all of the above? Quote
jase4538 Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 Thanks for the reply...They said they have tried to reset the counters but i dont know about putting it through a forced regeneration.I would have assumed so with it being a main dealer.I will ask them in the morning.Thinking about it the fuel level was the same when it came out & they didnt charge me on the bill for fuel..so i would say they had not done the regeneration.THAKS AGAIN. I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED. Quote

I WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED. After we have carried out the work, of which the regeneration is the last bit, we give the customer the bill and send them to the fuel station..........if the customer doesnt go to the fuel station thats when the problem occurs.......hang about here for 5 minutes gonna look something up........will post in a mo Risk of particle filter clogging In the event of prolonged idling, regeneration assistance is ineffective (exhaust gas temperature insufficient) . The filter is clogged by particles . The injection ECU informs the BSI . The BSI requests that a message is displayed on the multifunction screen (risk of particle filter clogging) in the following cases : particle filter fault (filter overloaded) . The aim is to encourage the customer to adapt his driving to facilitate particle filter regeneration . Within 100 kilometres after the message appears, the customer must drive for at least 3 minutes at a speed greater than 50 km/h which should cause the message to disappear . Failure to comply with this recommendation will lead to the following fault : particle filter clogged . The injection ECU informs the BSI which requests activation of the following components : - Request to illuminate the diagnostic LED - Request to display a message on the multifunction screen (antipollution problem) Minimum level of additive reached The injection ECU informs the BSI which requests activation of the following components : - Request to flash the service LED on the control panel (for 20 seconds after the ignition is switched on) (*) - Request to display a message on the multifunction screen (minimum diesel additive level) (after the ignition is switched on) (*) (*) depending on vehicle equipment . Procedure for service LED switching off . After the filling of the additive reservoir, the service LED remains lit until the next injection of additive into the fuel . Procedure for service LED switching off : Opening of the fuel filler cap - add fuelClosing of the fuel filler cap Starting the engine Stopping the engine I dont suppose you want to teach your dealer to suck eggs, and i expect they have done as required........i would try adding some fuel......if you do need to take it into them to have any rework donr though i would suggest taking it in with half a tank so you can add the fuel at the end. jase4538 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 :o tanks for that reply. Well here is the latest.I phoned the dealer today and asked if it was put through a regeneration to which they said no...because they say the first thing is to reset the counters..and they are saying they wont reset so they cant go to the next step. They are telling me an additive Ecu "may" let them reset the counters.I am thinking of taking the car to another dealer & for £70 let them try to reset counters then try a forced regeneration.I have tried putting in extra fuel(15l) after it came back to see if alarm would cancel ...but it didnt. Can i cause any damage to the engine while running it with alarm coming on? it only comes up once 30 secs after start up then goes off..and there is definately additive in the tank.Cheers.... jase. Your not likely t o do any damage......its extremely rare that that the computers wont reset, so your probably right in looking for an alternative dealer Quote
jase4538 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 I CAN GET THE CAR IN AT ANOTHER DEALER ON TUE OR WED NEXT WEEK.IF THEY CANT RESET THE COMPUTER I WILL SEE WHAT ADVICE THEY OFFER ME TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.I WILL ALSO ASK IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO DISABLE THE FUNCTION ALTOGETHER JUST TO STOP THE ALARM COMING UP,BUT I DOUBT THATS POSSIBLE.I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED!THANKS AGAIN. jase4538 Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007  HERE IS THE REPORT FROM ANOTHER DEALER I HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM(AFTER BEING SAT THERE 7 HOURS!!)"CHECK PARTICLE FILTER COUNTERS.FOUND NOT RESET.RESET EOLYS COUNTER.FOLLOW PROCEDURE TO FOOL ECU INTO THINKING FUEL HAS BEEN ADDED.LIGHT GOES OFF.ROAD TEST..LIGHT COMES BACK ON.REPEAT ABOVE PROCEDURE,RESET COUNTERS,IGNITION OFF WAIT 10 SECS.RUN ENGINE FOR 1 MIN- SWITCH OFF WAIT 4 MINS.RECHECK FAULT CODES, STILL PERMANENT. REPEAT ABOVE PROCEDURE ADDING 10 L FUEL,LOXIA CRASHES AGAIN.FAULT LEAD ON LEXIA2 LIGHT STILL ON.CHECK ALL FUSES INP5F1 & BSI,ALL O.K. REMOVE COVER TO EOLYS RESOVOIR.CHECK IMPEDENCE OF EOLYS MOTOR..FOUND O.K. CONSULT CIRCUIT DIAGRAM. TEST EOLYS PUMP..ALL O.K. CHECK FEED & EARTH TO PUMP FOUND NO FEED. jase4538 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Posted February 17, 2007  Just a quick note to say thanks for the help to try & resolve my problem with the additive alarm. After never ending problems i have traded in the car & gone back to a Toyota ( which i have been driving trouble free for years before my citroen nightmare!!!)Keep up the good work.Jason Quote
Stuart js Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Shame you went back to Toyotas but hey if we were all the same we would be driving Ford model T's!!!! any way to other readers, I had this problem about the additive warning not going off, took it back to the dealer and they found the Eloy filler cap was not seated properly and the fluid had drained away - so message is check the cap, just iin front of the left hand rear wheel underneath. Oh buy the way, I tried a Toyota Avensis for a month and found the ride to jiggly and firm ..... first car that was not a citroen for about 15 years.Stu Quote
