Hiya All,

I bought a brand new Citroen C1 from Merthyr in June 06 and I hve had nothing but trouble ever since. 3Weeks after i had the car all the electrics had to be re set. I woke up one January morning to find the car full of water so rang the garage and had to wait 2 weeks before they could even look at it. I had mould, dew and muck growing all over the carpet and the smell was disgusting. They gave me it back ten days later only for me to find after 3 days teh car full of water yet again. Rang the garage again who told me they needed to import Specially Modified Seals in from France so it would be at lest 4 week but 2 days later they rang me and said the car was eady to be picked up. I woke up this morning to find the car leaking yet again. Rang the garage who advised they cannot do anything further to help me. This is 3 times in a short spce of time and i am at my wits end. Please help. Does ne one know a solution to this or does anyone know n e 1 who is having the same problem?

I would advise people to not have this car because it is like the car Jack Built. Absolutely disgusted with it. Worst car citroen has brought out.

I would have to say that the C1 has proved to be trouble free. As far as water leaks are concerned i would assume the seals your dealer refered too were the door aperture seals, which i note appear to have now been modified.

My recommendation would be to find another dealer to look at the problem, or speak to Citroen UK so they can liaise with your dealer.

They did put specially modified seals onto the car but this morning I found teh car leaking yet again for the 3rd time. I have spoken to Capital Bank, My Dealer and Citroen UK headoffice and they have told me there is nothing they can do. I have taken all the possible routes. So it looks like im left with a rotten, smelly, disgusting car!

It is a 5 Door 1.1 Rhythm. The firt time they replaced the 4 door seals and 4window seals they said. The second time they told me the gap around my four doors was to big for their seals so they had to get specially modified seals in from france.

Is it a 3 or 5 door?

Which seals have they replaced?

Write Citroen UK a real snotty letter and tell them you want to back the car unless it can be repaired or replaced.Tell them about the service you have been getting from your local dealer and how apalling it has been. Also send a copy to the DP at your dealer who have been stuffing up your car.

I work in the motor trade and a good letter to the top brass usually gets them moving.

Ive had letters from Trading standards sent to them and sent my own letters but they aint budging thats why i am frustrated

I had my C3 Exclusive from Thomas & Davies aswell. Its a nightmare to get you car seen quickly there. When my brothers gear box went on the Saxo it took them 6 weeks to get it and then do it.

Who sold the car to you? I know the staff well there as I have gotten them loads of customers.

I know Julian the head Mechanic can be abrupt.

When I want things done I phone Greg who sold me the car and he sorts things for me.

Citroen are crafty though. In November my brothers cooling sensor went on his C3. So the car was towed to Thomas & Davies and they said to my brother they can't get the part untill 3 weeks. So as my brother uses handcontrols and I do aswell for different reasons anyway Motability had to get an adapted car from London and they told Citroen they got to pay for it. So my brother had this hire car 2 days later Thomas & Davies said the cars done.

I said to my brother wait a minute I know whats happening here. Because Citroen had to pay for this hire car they got the part quicker. What a difference from 3 weeks to 2 days

I know what you mean. They are crafty but when i rang to speak to Julian he woudeltn speak to me. I also had a very heated discusin with the MD there. when they told me they had to get specially modified seals in on teh Wednesday i told them they had to pay for the petrol because they gave me a 1.6 courtesy car and mine is only a 1.0 so it was eating my petrol. I was filling up every 2 days. I only fill mine up twice a month if that. they told me it wuld take6 weeks for the seals to come in but after i told them bout the petrol mycar was ready 2 days later. They are trying to rip me off. I have asked for a new car as i feel these problems shudent arise like they have been doing in a brand new car. They wont budge thou. I asked the guy who fixed the car what happens if i have another water leak and he said nothing else we can do so i said what do i do then and he shrugged his shoulders. Looks like ive got to put up wiv this smelly disgusting crap rotten foul car. I will never buy another Citroen car again. sorry to rant but it is frustrating lol

Are they saying the problem is your fault? Are you parking under a waterfall every night? I carn't see how if there is a genuine fault with the car and its not your doing, they carn't fix it so they are telling you to go away.

It does not add up,have you got a lawyer? Take them to court.

I am getting mad with them reading your story,if i was in your shoes i would have blood on my hands by now........

You should read posts on the Pluriel section of this forum. They will tell you how owners went about getting full refunds or replacement cars from Citroen.

I would go down the bad publicity route, take your own video camera or a local newspaper reporter and photographer with you next time you visit the garage. They are allowed 3 attempts to fix any fault with the car if they admit after this it cannot be fixed you are entitiled to a replacement or refund.

Also write to Watchdog, Top Gear and all the other motoring magazines and programs you can think of, make sure you cc the MD of the garage and any marketing department they have. If they have any adverts for the C1 in the showroom you can complain to advertising standards about them. Advertising standards will investigate any claim.

Whilst all of the above does not ensure a result it does tie up the staff at the garage having to answer lots of questions and tells them you are serious about giving them as hard a time as they are giving you.

Thats really awful to hear, I' cannot believe they are not doing anything to sort it. When i got my car i noticed a deep scratch that ran from outside in, like they had passed something through the wondow, i bought it brand new, and rang as soon as i nooced it, my local dealer sorted it out immediately and i've had no trouble with anything since. I think its appalling the service you're getting. Is there really nothing you can do. What about threatening to take them to court?

Hi

After all this rain off last week i just noticed my wifes 5 door Rhythm has a leak around the boot area. The mat in the boot is soaking and some water in the spare wheel well.I had a look around and found the rear washer feed not connected but i dont think this is the fault, i think it could be the boot seal it looks a little suspect at the top. Taking back to the garage tomorrow for them to look at but it was purchased from a Ford garage, but only 18 months old so should still under Citreon warrenty.Let you know how i get on.

The magazine you need to write to is What Car? They'll take up the fight for you. Ultimately, you should reject a car within 30 days if the fault isn't resolved. I did this once. Garage hated it but the customer is always right.

Who says the customer is always right........ The customer has rights, doesnt mean he/she is right though.

Well, I got another car! ...Twice!!!!

Hi

The garage said it was a vent behind the bumper that was leaking, so they replaced it then water tested it. But found it was still leaking so are keeping it until monday for further tests. Can not fault them though as they have kept me informed and not tried to fob me off.

Hi

Got the car back today, apparantly it was the vents behind the rear bumper they resealed the vent again and retested it now it seems ok. A little bit more of this rain should put it to the test, but as i stands the boot it bone dry.

My C1 was bought new as a 56 reg Rythym diesel 5 door.Since taking delivery the car has had both front door rubbers changed twice because of leaks!!.The rear door windows rubbers have been changed three times so far.To finaly cure the problem no new fancy rubbers, the glass was changed. Not correctly shaped glass!!.

Beware of a quick turn around on a repairs.I had my car in on a three day inspection. This was to replace a front door rubber. As you have stated the required parts were obtained earlier than expected. On my occasion a member of work shop staff leaving told me the repairs never took place, the dealer had failed to effect a repair which several weeks later a similar repair was required!!.

I think you'll find that when newly desgined cars first come out they never have the time to totally test them out. It always takes a year or two to iron out the problems as tested by us public. Hence if you can avoid buying newly designed cars and wait till they have been making the model you desire a few years then you'll find the reliabilty level a lot higher.

This is news about new modifed door seals from france.

Is there going to be a recall on this for all C1's ?

I have my seals coated in silicon grease because I no longer trust them.

i am going to talk to my dealer next time I am in.

Why not try another dealer. Jacksons in Bridgend may do better?

It's such a shame some dealers don't care about their customers. I used Lee and turner in Bridgend for warranty work on a Fiat grande Punto I had. Total muppets working on the car. Still, they are paying the price for their bad service now. Mitsubishi have ditched them, and Fiat are soon too.

Hopefully Thomas and Davies will lose their franchise and a better dealer will replace them.

Nothing to lose by trying somewhere else though is there?
