Rich_Eason Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Got in the car late last night and spent 15mins (literally) waiting for my windscreen and side windows to demist, was so painfully boring to watch  And even after 15mins (A/C on) it was just enough to see through to get moving with the edges of the window still steamed up. Do any of you suffer the same or is it just me? It just seems to take a ridiculously long time to demist.... My trouble is that the only the thing I miss from my Focus is the heated front windscreen which was wicked, and wish the C4 had it. So am I being impatient? I also hate those Chamois pad things as they always get manky and pongee and besides which leave annoying smears over the windscreen. PS - Yes I know it was Valentines eve and No, the steamy windows were not created by a rigorous exercise regime inside the car... PPS - I would like to also note that even though I quoted Tina Turner, I don’t actually like ANY of her music, I Goggled her for the above quote... Quote

Can't say it takes a long time for the car to demist, although the girlfriend does start the car for me in the mornings :D I tend to leave the car to warm up for a few minutes before putting any heating on - not sure what you and others do. hertsnminds Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Do you have manual A/C or climate control? With climate control you get a front screen blaster button, fan to warp faactor 9, air flow with a/c to the screen. Very noisy but gets the job done, usually in under 5 mins. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 15, 2007 Author Posted February 15, 2007 Yes thats what I was using, the windscreen "de-blast" button and just sat and watched it demist a small area about the size of a dinner plate in line with the speedo, then the rest just took forever! Quote
wozza Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Was the fan speed on the highest setting? Sometimes it knocks down so its a bit slower so put it up again should not take that long to demist. I wait till mines demisted enough to see out then start driving by the time i reach the main road off my estate its all done. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 not had that problem it does demist windscreen very quick Quote
C4VTS Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 No real problems here with misted windows. It normally clears within a minute of demister on full blast. Maybe you don't use your aircon enough, and all the gas has leaked out? <_< 15mins to demist sounds like an exageration? Quote
jonfish Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I also had a focus with Quickclear windscreen and it was superb as you say. The one thing I really miss. I find that modern cars are very well sealed and the windows do mist up more. Makes sense re. pollution filter etc. I suppose. The focus did steam up sometimes and the Quickclear was useful for this even though it was supposed to be for ice really. My C4 mists up very quickly anytime I switch the auto/climate off - that is mid journey not just at start up -even if I direct the air to the screen only and also even in screen blast mode without a/c. (You can switch the a/c off after switching the screen blaster on.) However, 15 minutes does seems excessive. With warp a/c powered screen blast mist goes very quickly for me. Auto Express 17/23 Jan issue were reviewing some anti misting products. "Comma ProVision Fog Clear Gel" came out best but I haven't used so can't say. Might be worth a try. Quote
wozza Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Mine sometimes mists up in the auto setting but never on manual just using it without the A/C on. Strange that you said the complete opposite. <_< Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 I'm a bit hesitant to start sticking things on the windscreen as one of my real pet hats is smears and seeing things that shouldnt be there. And if there is one job I hate and that is cleaning the front window!By leaving it on Auto the only bit of misting I tend to get is on cold mornings sometimes get it on the drivers window. I dont think the misting has anything to do with how air tight the car is. In the past I have owned a number of Minis and any Mini owner will tell you you dont go anywhere without something to wipe the windows as they steam up very easily. Most of the time you have to have at least one window open to exchange the air inside. Its a shame more car manufacturers dont put quick clear windscreens in their cars as I think it was one of the best features the Focus had. It was always fun to leave the house watching everyone scraping ice off the cars, ping it on and within a minute its completly clear and off you drive whilst the others carry on scraping. Quote
arrows Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Are you sure you the air re-circulation button is not pressed in? Quote
Rich_Eason Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 Positive as that makes things worse Quote
wozza Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 If the aircon is on it should make things better. Quote
Mat Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 If i have the aircon on during winter, it makes the condenstation much worse when i come back to the car, so i need the aircon on more, and more - a downwards spiral ! Quote
Rob555 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 My car got steamed up very bad, the windows were dripping on the inside and the air-con took forever to clear it. The cause turned out to be water getting into the boot from the o/s rear lamp unit ,(look for water in the lens) the dealer said the seal had gone and replaced the lamp .Its been o/k since Quote
lee_marshuk Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Mine's done in under a minute usually! PPS - I would like to also note that even though I quoted Tina Turner, I don’t actually like ANY of her music, I Goggled her for the above quote... You clearly have no taste in music <_< Quote

c4owner Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Have to agree with the rest of the guys rich - put the warp power button on and the screen clears fairly rapidly Maybe a problem with the air flow divertor behind the dash - mine failed last week and sent hot air to the drivers side no matter what I did It can fail the opposite way Quote
BigJohnD Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Have to agree with the rest of the guys rich - put the warp power button on and the screen clears fairly rapidlyLikewise. Though I use it very rarely as the car garaged most nights. It does seem like the vents are blocked or something. Quote
