ifigureditout Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Ok bit of an odd one here. Love the VTS and the only thing stopping me buy one is the lack in performance compared to some of the other hatches. i know if i bought one i would be wanting a hop up in performance within a year or so. how much do you think and engine and gearbox conversion to say a 2.0t vag unit would cost and how easy would it be to do? anyone have any ideas cos theres nothing out there for the c4 vts at all for serious power gains. and im guessing dropping a new engine in would probably be cheaper than having a turbo onto the existing engine. ifigureditout Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 The c4 is the car i like out of those lot the most though. well looks wise and styling, interior, options the lot. just i was wondering if it is half feasable to do? Quote
CoolCarbon Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 The c4 is the car i like out of those lot the most though. well looks wise and styling, interior, options the lot. just i was wondering if it is half feasible to do? If you really feel the VTS is lacking power....you will have to go elsewhere to get the extra umph....the expense of a major conversion, if possible, would be truly prohibitive... :) However, if you feel you can justify the search for those added bhp's, I would suggest that your licence is in serious danger of expiring somewhat prematurely.. The amount of times you'll be able to benefit from that extra power will be few and far between....you need to offset that against the expense you're going to incure for those odd occasions...and the possibility of having to walk instead of drive to your destination... ;) I ride a Motorcycle, a BMW Boxer with 85 ponies... Last year I did a lap of the Nurburgring with my wife as pillion.... Three other friends on their bikes joined me...all of which had more power than mine, one almost double the power.... and all solo... After the first mile, I didn't see any of them again until they pulled off the track....after me... ;) More power does not mean more progress.... :D Quote
ifigureditout Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 Just because i want more power does not mean i will speed and lose my license. thats like writing off all powerful cars. it was just an idea. an unlikely one i admit, i like the vts it just cant live upto the excitement of the vxr/r26/st/cupra. its a shame cos it has the looks over them all. iannez Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 there supposed to be putting a 1.6 turbo in the c4 vts this year so if it has to be a c4 this could be the one for you. it should have the same bhp or more than the 180 vts but you can do so much more with a turbo engine. if they keep it 180bhp you are going to be looking at about 210bhp with a remap. about the same as a standad saphire cosworth. mmmmm. think of the mid range. ifigureditout Posted February 23, 2007 Author Posted February 23, 2007 yeah i think the 1.6 turbo could be an improvement but still not good enough imo Quote
wozza Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 You joking 1.6 turbo would be amazing. remap would get upwards of 200bhp and remember the C4 is a lot lighter than the competitions cars. the 1.6 is nearly 200kg lighter than the 225 megane. With only 15bhp less if you take into account remap depending on what they do with it. Power to weight is going to be so much better. 210bhp in a 1200kg car puts in into the low 6 second to 60 mark depending on gear ratios and traction. Plus exhaust mods and inductions mods on turbos do make differences. Turbos are so easier and cheaper to tune as well. If its got over 200bhp and it has similar weight to the current 1.6 C4 id say add 30kg for extras. Power to weight ratio is getting close to 175bhp per tonne. If it gets a decent 6 speed box i can see it being a bit of a monster with some mods. And since its a BMW engine its likely to be bullet proof too and have lots and lots of mods available for it since its the new engine for the cooper S. Otherwise the C4 is likely to be similar to tune compared to the Clio182. Meaning gains are gonna be expensive. Engine swap no idea due to all the electrical systems in the C4 with the speedo etc i can see it being a bit more fiddly. But the 1.8 engine is fairly cheap to get now. Sure matt black on CS could source you one and give you an idea of what it'd be like to fit. Quote
hertsnminds Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Just see if you can buy the C4 WRC Citroën C4 WRC features four-wheel drive and a 2-litre turbocharged engine mated to a cross-mounted 6-speed gearbox. Or wait to see what engine they put in the C4 Citroen Sport, if the concept ever becomes reality. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
