DesdinovaUK2 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Well after the sad demise 12 days ago of our 53 reg 1.6 petrol Desire - written off after a 20 mph collision with a flat bed van - have finally today sourced a replacement. 07 reg 92 hp diesel Desire in Iron Grey. No petrol available with air con in the country and didn't want to wait 10 - 12 weeks we were being quoted for a factory build. Must say the Desire spec has gone up a bit since 2003. Quote
northman Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Good to hear of another Berlingo owner staying loyal. Keep us posted. We'll all want to know how the new one compares with the old one. Quote
Terry1100 Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 Nice one - I think they look good in Iron Grey. Anyway, my questions for when it arrives. Tell me about the trip computer ? Do the windows work after the ignition is turned off ? Does the CD player have a line in (iPod) facility ? cheers. Quote

Does the CD player have a line in (iPod) facility ? cheers. If it helps I have a new model Lingo, the trip computer displays average/current consumption, outside temperature, miles since reset and range left on fuel. The windows don't work after turning off the ignition. No in line facility on the radio/CD player, its the same as the one fitted to your's. Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted March 19, 2007 Author Posted March 19, 2007 Well picked it up this afternoon - yes it does look good in Iron Grey. CD radio is identical to the one we had in the 53 reg, although the i pod radio transmitter thingy I bought the wife for her birthday works well. Electronic display is slightly different, the 53 reg had a scrolling message when doors weree open, this one has a picture of a car showing open doors. It also shows a list of what is set on all 6 preset channels when scrolling channels on the radio controls - old one didn't do that. The basic display gives date, time and outside temperature. Trip computer as was described above - miles until need to refill, distance travelled, average mpg, instantaneous mpg and average speed. Controlled from a button on the end of the right hand stalk. Automatic headlights are pretty funky, they come on when the wipers are on continuously too. Easily switched off if you don't want the automatic function. The automatic wipers have to be "reset" after every ignition switch off - a little bothersome I feel. First impression of the 92 hp diesel is very positive - it is a lot more nippy than I was expecting. Have to be careful at the local filling station though - just realised in time that 50% of the pumps only have "ultimate diesel" - have to look carefully which pump you use - having only bought petrol before this was a new thing to look out for. Nice to see 500+ miles showing until a refill is necessary though. As was reported above, no the windows don't work with ignition off. Quote
Terry1100 Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Does that mean that you have the C2 type right hand stalk control. Two rocker switches on the end of the stalk - nearest one does CD track change/radio station change on the rocker and trip computer "cyccling" by pushing in - furthest one does volume on the rocker and mute by pushing in. No the radio/cd remote stalk is seperate as it was before, on the right hand side lower down. That is identical to how it was before. The main right hand stalk has just one press in button on the very end tip of the stalk which cycles through the trip computer functions. Incidentally just went to put it away in the garage now, the automatic headlights came on almost instantaneously - wasn't expecting such quick operation. Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Was contacted today about the free in car DVD system Citroen were offering. Should be with us shortly, still not really sure why it couldn't come with the car but hey, I'm not complaining. Well impressed with this diesel fuel economy lark, no long trips yet but based on what I'm having to fork out at the pumps over the last 2 weeks saving somewhere between £10 and £20 a week on fuel compared to the 1.6 petrol. Hi,How is the HDi diesel for noise and performance?...I recently had the use of a basic 1.9D van and the performance was appalling and the noise was bad too!Driving our petrol version feels like a sports car in comparison!Have been thinking of going down the diesel route as the 1.6 petrol economy is pretty useless on the Berlingo! What sort of deals are there at the moment from Citroen?Cheerz  Quote
DickieG Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Performance wise, the 1.6HDi is pretty good really, with minimal turbo lag its picks up very well, a significant improvement over earlier diesel engines. Best of all I feel quite hard done by if I don't get at least 50+MPG :P As for noise, again generally good although the plastic inlet manifold on mine rattles quite a lot making it sound rather 'Old diesel' like when idling. Apparently this is a common problem due to the securing clips not being up to much. This can be solved by using a 'Self tapper' screw or cable ties. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I can't help with the present deals, take a look on http://www.citroen.co.uk/ when its working again. As a side point, my latest one has a couple of water leaks, one via the N/S/R push out window (poor seal) and the drivers door due to a mis-shaped outer door seal. These are due to be sorted out when it goes in on Wednesday. My latest one does feel much better screwed together, either this one is better built or my last one was a 'Friday afternoon car' Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 There are 2 versions of the 1.6 diesel, 75 hp and 92 hp - we have the latter. Noisewise, it's fine so far, no real difference to the petro,l version as far as I'm concerned. Performance is fine, acceleration in first gear seems quicker to be honest. Trip computer is showing average mpg at 42.8 at the moment, and rising slwoly - but it's all town driving no longer runs yet. Deals - there is the usual cash back offer, which always seems to be threatening to come to an end at the end of the particular month you enquire, and also the free in car DVD system at the moment.
