ifigureditout Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Heard quite a few people suggesting the c4 is going to get the 1.6 turbo lump. just wondering if there is anything to go on to suggest this or is it just a feeling and what they think would be good. considering a c4 again but don't want to shell out for a 2.0 vts only to find the 1.6 turbo is out a couple of months later. I doubt there will ever be a 1.6 petrol turbo, if that's what you mean? There is already a 1.6 turbo diesel. Quote
lab44 Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 I doubt there will ever be a 1.6 petrol turbo, if that's what you mean? There is already a 1.6 turbo diesel. Not sure when but I would say its almost certain there will be one seeing as PSA have already developed one and are using it in the 207. Quote
ifigureditout Posted March 22, 2007 Author Posted March 22, 2007 thats what i thought. it seems to be the next obvious step. plus the petrol vts' has hardly sold well despite huge citroen cashback as usual. i see the 1.6 turbo in the 207. isn't it almost identical to the new cooper s engine. i do want a vts but it would be alot better suited to be with the 1.6T lump in it Quote
C4VTS Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 The 1.6 turbo is only in the Pug 207. Why is it not in a 307 ? The 207 is a much lighter car than a C4 or Pug 307, and therefore makes it quicker than a C4/307 would be with the same engine. The performance would not be much better than a 2.0HDi C4 VTS, and for that reason it's not going to sell, and we already have a 2.0 petrol VTS which offers similar performance. I see no advantage in a turbo 1.6 C4. Quote
wozza Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 1.6 turbo C4 would give a kerb weight around 1200kg. So 140kg less than the VTS with 175bhp. That 5bhp down to a 140kg weight reduction power to weight would put that 0-60 wise in the 7 second area after a remap expect power to be boosted at least 20% taking it to around 210bhp with a lot more torque than an N/A 2.0 lump. What you get is a lighter car with more power and more mid range punch. And with power to weight ratio above 170bhp / tonne you get a car that can accelerate to 60 in around 6.5 seconds or there abouts. Meaning a 2.0 petrol VTS would be left for dead. Remember a news thing a while ago saying the engine would go into the MCS and the 207 first then works its way into the psa lineup. Its set to replace the 2.0 VTS apparently. Not sure if the C5 has it yet or not but the same release also said the C5 would get a twin turbo diesel engine. Quote
Rich_Eason Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 So in theory being that the engine is used in the Cooper S, we could all take a cruise down to Worthing in Sussex, and get The John Cooper Works to weave their magic on the engine of the 1.6 lump? Excellent! If you are wanting to buy a VTS I wouldnt wait for the release of the 1.6 unit as you could be waiting a while. Are there any spy shots of the face lifted versions yet? Quote
Pondus66 Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 The 207T is actually 6 kg heavyer than the 307 1.6. But I talked to a friend in Peugeot system, says 1.6T probably in 308 when it comes out. 1,6T would be great in C4 coupe Quote
wozza Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 All I remember was seeing a thing saying C4 facelift was due this year between 07 and 08 with a CC model following in 08. But hey this is citroen were talking about not the most reliable of marques for information lol. Although with both the picassos having some differences to the cars would lead me to believe some of that would get incorporated into the facelift. 207 being heavier is probably cause its had the same problem the new clio did. Which is also a heavy car compared to the old model now. Superminis are getting bigger due to the need for 5 star safety. Quote
ifigureditout Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 the 1.6t would be alot more useable i think on a day to day basis even if the gains are little performance wise. plus the 1.6t would be so much more tuneable. Quote
C4VTS Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 It's all heresay. There is no proof that a 1.6 turbo will ever appear. :P Also doubt there will be a significant C4 facelift. I would not bother waiting for a car that may not ever exist.  Quote
ifigureditout Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 i know its all hearsay at the moment by the looks of things. but there a few reasons to think it may happen. i would be gutted if i shelled out all that money and along came a facelifted 1.6t version!!! Quote
wozza Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 so buy a 2nd hand VTS where most of the depreciation is done rather than a new one where it will lose an incredible amount of money. Can pick up 180's now for under £10k Then when and if the new one comes out get rid of the current model and buy a new one if you want. Quote
ifigureditout Posted March 24, 2007 Author Posted March 24, 2007 yeah that is an option no doubt just whether one with the rite options shows up or not Quote
Rich_Eason Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Get the dealer to search for you after all that is what you are paying them to do in the premium price.... Quote
Welshguy Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Personally I would get a TurboDiesel 1.6 VTR+ and kit it out with VTS spec equipment. More work on the cosmetic/equipment side but the TD would be far easier to tune, run and would probably last longer and have a better resale value. I think my next car will definately be a diesel.
