I couldn't work out how we got the stated 30% decrease as that would have been £12 not £5. It appears that petrol and diesel rates were aligned, that took us up to £50, then we got the 30% reduction to £35. It's good news. Personally, I don't think that £300/£400 a year road tax is much of a dis-incentive to buy a bigger car, but it sure hurts when the bill drops on the mat.

Road Tax for the C1 will be £20 in 2009 and free in 2010 according to the Department of Transport. This is being funded by people with bigger cars having to pay a lot more road tax :-)

wow thats good free in 2010 im happy with that

Me too

It's an added bonus, because I traded in a car with 215g Co2/km for my C1 just before the budget!

Hi, newbie here!

Sorry to disappoint, but the VED on the C1 will be £20 in 2010, not free as stated.

If you look here: - http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=31501

You will see it says from April 2010 it is "free", but that is in fact the new car fee that the ZanuLabour party have brought in, i.e you buy a fat 4x4 and you pay a premium £800 just for the car in tax.

If you look to the left of that figure, you will see that for 12 months, the VED is still £20.

Not that I am complaining £20 is bloody marvellous. :D

hey 20 pounds even 30 or 40 is still better than over 100 i was paying 120 for my clio so im happy regardless i think its cool but the way petrol is i think they have to bring something down to even things out but being the goverment greedy that they are i dont think thats likly to happen :)

don't get yours hope up too high yet because it could be an election looser for labour so plenty of time for a U turn  as yet personally I dont see it happening because its a green tax scam and not popular with most overtaxed drivers today

It'll happen. Apart from the political considerations (Gordon can hold on til summer 2010 before calling an election) any likely alteration is only going to lessen the impact on older mid sized family cars, rather than suddenly penalise clean and economical cars for the ills of the world.

it's not so much that they've done a U turn with congestion charging, but where the road tax bands have been rearranged the C1/107/Gaygo no longer falls into a qualifying band, and the Congestion Charging has be rejigged to reflect that (cos they have to base the charge on something).

I'll give £100 to charity of your choice if they increase the road tax on the C1. Just aint gonna happen for a number of geopolitical reasons.
