Guest Steved Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I have a 20001 C5 2.0 HPI exclusive SE with colour sat nav, the display screen has started to play up in that it sometimes stays blank. This is an intermittant problem that appears to be worse in very cold or wet weather, when it does come on it stays on and all functions work ok. Today I noticed that if I switch the ignition on, the display comes on ok, when I start the engine, the display flickers while the starter motor is turning and then sometimes the display blanks, sometimes it stays on. My thoughts tend to be a loose or bad connection somewhere. has anyone else experienced this sort of problem. I am reluctant to take it to my Citroen dealer as everything seems to cost a lot to fix. kfk Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 From the information you have given i would suggest the first check might be to get the battery checked. Is it the Original one? Should you decide to change the battery yourself make sure you turn the Sat Nav off and wait for 10 minutes before disconnecting the battery.......you need to wait so that the Sat nav can save its information, if it doesnt save it correctly you may be in a situation where it wont reboot at all! Just because the battery starts the car it doesnt mean its healthy......were changing lots of batteries on 51 plate motors now. Quote
sarrybaldy Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 Yep, this is how mine started.Got worse and worse, unit worked less and less. Now works about 1 hour in 100.Diagnosed by Main Dealer as ECU - £850 +vat plus fitting!!!!The "plug in" diagnostic will not work so don't waste £40 +vat, since if the ECU is not working it will not talk to the diagnostic!! I lose complete control of Radio, single CD and CD changer.............and no clock!!!! Quote

Thanks for the info, I will get the battery checked, be interesting if that is the cause of the problem. Quote

Guest CE05LDB Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Could be the battary as my sisters battary needed replacing on her 52 reg Saxo around Christmas time. Quote
sarrybaldy Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Yep, dealer says Satnav ECU.Anyone any idea where it actually is?? Local garage (not Citroen) has a Cardata system that shows the ECU as being "near" the Satnav CD unit, but it's not obvious. Quote

Interesting development I hope, my car is normally only used for short local runs and therfore the battery was not getting a full charge. Over the last week I had to go on a long run since then the display has come on every time the car has been started. So it looks like kfk's response that it could be the battery may be right. It is the original battery and may not be holding a charge as well as it used to. I will be monitoring how it goes, may decide to get a new battery. Quote
kfk Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Sometimes it can be something simple, hope it proves correct Quote
