allan Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I have a Xantia HDI SX 110. the cooling fans are not working. so far I have pulled the plug from the sensor on the nearside of the engine and one of the fans started to run, my question is? does this mean that the switch is faulty, and that the other fan is also faulty. I hope someone can help me if you need any more information let me know. Allan Quote
DickieG Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 This problem is becoming quite common on Xantia's now. Causes can be faulty fan motors to wiring faults both earth points and positive supply. There are three relays positioned between the fans which control them, look carefully for corrosion on the contacts, particularly the bottom one. A wiring diagram on the following link is for the Peugeot 306 but Xantia fans are wired the same way http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/wshtm...fan2/fanop1.htm Quote

A wiring diagram on the following link is for the Peugeot 306 but Xantia fans are wired the same way http://www.peugeotlogic.com/workshop/wshtm...fan2/fanop1.htm I had the same problem on mine last year. Removing the wiring plug from on top of the thermostat should engage both fans for high speed operation. Only 1 of my fans was working. I span the fan that wasn't spinning with my fingers whilst the ok fan was on and the faulty one started spinning. I removed the front grill and gave the faulty fan motor a few taps with a hammer and it starts properly now. Quote
allan Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Thanks for getting back to me, the wiring diagram i,am afraid is double dutch to me, if you could tell me an easy way to check the right hand fan it would be a great help, I also have an update which might help, with the engine just started if I press the AC switch one of the fans runs, the left one but when I run the engine untill the temp. rises untill the stop light flashes the fan still does not run. I have a new switch to put in, but not untill Mon. so I hope this gives me one fan. I dont know if I have explained myself very well I hope so. Allan Quote
DickieG Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 The fans are two speed and as such the slow speed should be operating some time before the stop light illuminates. Have you tried spinning the right fan? It might be that the motor has siezed. Quote
