Pre or post 2004? Mk1 or Mk2? The manuals are different because the controls are very different.

Try eBay. It rocks for manuals.

In answer to your earlier question, the check control will display a message when you hold the button in - only if the "service" light is showing. This can be as simple as "Washer fluid Low" etc.

Cheers

HI There

I have a C5 3l V6. On my computer and reading through the manual the check control option is used to list any fault warnings that have been displayed since the car started.

if there have been no fault warnings it will display nothing. Please bear in mind that it only displays current fault reports since the car has started so if you have just turned the car on it will not display anything. I also found that the computer is a little slow to pick up faults I have a faulty tire pressure sensor and it can take at least 15 minutes for the computer to decide there is a problem.

Hope this helps
