c1dan Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 Hi, does it make the sound when you are stationary with the engine ticking over, no gear selected ( neutral ) and then pressing the clutch? Quote
ted47 Posted June 4, 2007 Author Posted June 4, 2007 no, checked today, when driving normaly ie no foot to the floor its not there its only when you push the revs up Quote
c1dan Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 If I drive my c1 gently - just cruising in 5th gear, I can hardly hear the engine above the road noise. If I push it harder it does sound quite different, the main noise then comes from the exhaust and the rear silencer. The noise from the rear silencer under the boot floor gets noticably louder if you take out the rear shelf or put the rear seats down. The 3 cylinder engine has a sporty growl when accelerating quickly. Quote
ted47 Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 thats it spot on, driving with care no noise but drive it hard the noise is a bit like a turbo charger kicking in, i notice that if you keep to the limits its ok, mind you its a great sound when pushed, i dont mind this as i am a bit heavy footed my wife keeps on reminding me its only a small engine but for a small car its very nippy and i do like to be a bit of a boy racer......... by the way im 60 years old, and in my youth used to drive a mini cooper (s) and the noise from that with a flat top air intake on the engine you could not have a conversation never mind hear the radio . acra Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Gotta love the sporty engine sound - sets it aside from other basic cars I reckon. That creak you mention coming from the driver seat - I have it too. I find that if I play with how the seatbelt connector sits, the creak goes away. Trouble is, it keeps coming back whenever I readjust my seatbelt - wondering if a bit of WD40'll do the trick... Quote
Martin_1973_uk Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I have the same creek, it is actually the seat belt holder that is at fault. Its something inside the casing as if you move and squeeze it then the noise stops. The engine does sound like the exhaust is a bit off but its a kinda boy racer sound and does make it feel more sporty. Believe me, if the exhaust blos its a lot louder than that. I'm getting 61 MPG although my journey is out in the sticks and around the 50MPH mark without to many stops so I don't see how they got that with town driving included. Quote
Guest C1millstone Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 My C1 is a diesel.Borrowed a 1ltr Petrol C1 following a warranty issue and made similar complaints on returning it as those outlined above.Work shop manager stated 3 cylinder PETROL engine and poor sound proofing in boot area. You have to thrash it to get anywhere!.But must admit it sounds good.C1MILLSTONE. ColinC1 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Soundproofing, where  This car has a total lack of soundproofing, try feeling under the carpets. Have you ever heard the noise of a stone hitting the underside of the car.A stone in tin rattling around, comes to mind ;) PS.. If you still do not feel happy with the car as it is, then you can go to most car part outlets (except halfords who nowadays usually have nothing pratical in) and buy rolls of car insulation, which you cut to suit, and fit it under the cabins carpet areas, cabins front bulkhead, and in the boot area. I've seen quite a good tutorial on doing that on a 107 blog, only problem is it adds weight so not only do you miss the nice sporty exhaust noise, but the car is slower too! Quote
JenJen Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 When I start the engine, the rev counter goes up to number "2" for a second or two, without me pressing the gas pedal. This happens only when the car isn't running for a while, with a cold engine I assume. Other than that the engine works perfectly fine, no strange voices or weird acting at all. Should I be worried? It's a 998cc petrol engine, a week old C1. Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 No, thats simply the cold/fast idle program doing it.s stuff. under certain ambient conditions the engine will riase the idle slightly for the first second or two before letting idle drop to a more regular speed. This is a good reason for old timers who grew up on carbs to leave the gas pedal well alone when starting, or it confuses the ECU as to what the base idle setting is and you get lumpy/erratic idle until you restart the motor.
