I have recently had a 1.6 HDI which is 20 months old and has done 4700 miles. I bought it from the Citroen deales that I have used for a number of years. The car was their demonstrator.

I noticed that the pre heat warning light does not come on when I turn on the ignition. When I asked about this I was told that with the modern engines this would only come on in extreme cold conditions. I would be interested to hear if anyone has any experience/views on this.

I'm not a Citroen mechanic, but I think what the dealer is telling you is correct. Does the owners manual tell you anything?

I don't remember seeing the glow plug lights on my older 2.2 HDi come on. I also had a 407 1.6 HDi (same engine as yours) for a month last year and don't recall the pre-heat warning light coming on either. I think maybe times have moved on from the days when pre-heat took about 3 seconds.

Thanks for the reply.

The owners manual says when starting wait for the light to go out. It is shown on the dashboard layout, and I can actually see the outline behind the glass of the dash.

your only likely to see the glow plug light if theres frost on the windscreen!

Yes you were right kfk. Confirmed by Citroen UK. After an email to the main UK web site they responded by phone within 3 hours and confirmed what the dealer had told me.

That's what I call service. :)
