Xantia 1.9 TD R plate since purchase April 07 Brand New 2 weeks ago CLUTCHSTARTER MOTORABS SYSTEM/FLUIDSRING TEETH GEAR FOR STARTER Back to today,Engaging key and starter motor is turning fine, but no engagement to enginejust an almighty racket Ring teeth gear has to be the problem??The ring gear i have been told, has to be literally forged on to its housing with intense heatotherwise it can become "cocked" can anyone here clarify this>?tech detail would be nice The garage isnt able to deal with the problem immediately so i hope to pick up some wisdomand expertise here!! #THINK My problem lies in ring teeth gear not being forged properlyam i on the right track? brand new flecks of metal are appearing on the engine chamber from wheel or starter!! I remember the instructions said not to use flame heat otherwise it would draw the temper. I used a potters' kiln and heated the ring to the advised temperature. After the old ring was chisled off the flywheel was kept cold. When the ring was hot it was taken from the kiln, dropped onto the flywheel and it became a tight fit as it cooled. Quote
