Hi,

Picked up a '97 Xantia 1.9td sx with air con, 1 owner, fsh and 41k miles last saturday, am well happy with it thus far!

Thing is 3 times now when ive been driving it the ABS light has come on until ive stoppped the car and turned off the ignition. When i turn the ignition on the ABS light comes on as it should then goes off but then occasionally lights up while driving along. Is this an electriacl niggle or something more sinister?

The brakes are very squeaky/squealy but not grinding like metal on metal so i think the pads are ok. Any ideas?

I cant find any evidence, either in the service book or the receipts about the cambelt having been changed in its lifetime. Due to the low mileage that maybe ok but ive also heard that cambelts should be changed every 5 years (if mileage is low) as they can perish, does this sounds right?

Many Thanks!

The ABS light on could be a major problem, or maybe something a little cheaper. Hopefully its something simple like an abs sensor playing up, in which case a diagnostic check should identify this. However, it isnt unnusual for ABS computers to go faulty....either way, first stop is get a diagnostic check carried out.

Regarding the cambelt, if you have no record of it being done i suggest you better be safe than sorry......after you find out about the ABS!

Ok cool, thanks for the quick reply.

I was thinking id best get the belt changed so will ask the garage to do a diagnostic check as well.

Was quoted about £150 for the cambelt change - does that sound reasonable?
