uphallst Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Hi there,I have to replace the pads (and discs) on my 2002 1.8 C5. I understand that Haynes do not do a C5 manual. On a previous C5 I visited the garage while a mechanic was doing this job and I thought I remembered him saying that he had lost his brake tool so the job took a long time. Can anyone tell me if I need a tool to rewind the caliper and if so what is it called and where can I get one. Some calipers I have done in the past work with the brute force leverage method.(I know this method. Wife says I can lift heavy things but am not too bright so this method suits me)Others have needed to be screwed one way or the other. ( Long nose pliers) Any advice on this will be most welcome. Thanks Frank Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Use brute force on the C5 calipers and you're looking at spending big money. They wind back - BUT IN DIFFERENT directions. The offside need to be wound back anticlockwise. The nearside, clockwise. You don't need any special tool, just a piece of square bar. Quote

This should give me something to do this weekend. The different directions is a bit daft but thanks fortelling me and saving me some time and maybe expense.Frank Quote
