hunterf58 Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 Hi all, just thought i'd let everyone know what a trully shitty time i'm having with rear subframes (yes plural!) on my p reg zx 1.9d auto sx. Some kind woman in a galaxy decided to hit my rear wheel and drive off leaving me with a bent alloy and rear subframe. After much cursing and arm waving I calmed down got to a scrap yard and low and behold found a p reg 1.9d sx with front end damage, perfect. £35 later I had a subframe. After leaving the car with a mechanic for 4 weeks he finally switched them for £150, great. Picked the car up and took it to have the new alloy fitted only it still rubbed, the wheel chap cheerily informed me that my nice 'new' subframe was bent. Bugger, bugering buggery bugger. (This was only this afternoon btw). Anyway now I am the best part of £200 down the drain and no better off. Does anyone know where you can get a decent subframe? New, refurbed? The scrappy I got the subframe from has said i can take it back and swap it for a 1994 subframe, i'm assuming as long as it has disk brakes it will fit ok?? Anyway I hate subframes at the moment and it seems like they cause a lot of people problems. Just be careful if you get a replacement from a breakers, take your wheels and check everthings straight!! iannez Posted July 22, 2007 Posted July 22, 2007 you could have bought a new zx for £200. i fit ater market alloys to my zx and one of them caught on the inside of one of the arches. your mechanic might have fit the axle too far to one side. Quote
Shemer Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Is there a chance you can use the arm from the "new" (the one you bought from breaker) subframe with the old subframe (where the arm is bent)? BTW, replace your mechanic - it's 5 hours work at most with a lift and tools. Quote
