Guest jeffc5 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Hello All, I understand that Peugeot and Citroen have a degree of cross pollination. It is especially obvious from behind the wheel where a lot of the switchgear looks the same. It got me wondering if there are any commonly required service items such as belts, filters and that type of thing that are interchangeable between the two makes. I realise this may sound strange and/or a recipe for disaster but I have a Peugeot/Renault dealer at the end of my street, while the nearest Citroen dealer is in Melbourne, 50 miles away. I have a 2002 C5, V6 auto. If this is a completely ridiculous please feel free to tell me so, as I am new to Citroen. On the other hand I would gratefully appreciate any sort of cross referencing information. Thanking you for your attention, Jeff Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Many Pugs and Citroens have the same engines so the service items are the same. For instance, Xantia and C5 have the same engine as Pug 406. Xsara and Pug 306 also share many parts. Quote

Guest jeffc5 Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Fiar question. Many cars are probably built in the same factory.I might spend some time getting part numbers from the pug dealer, after all he is the one that will gain from the exercise. If I can build up a cross reference, or if the part numbers are the same, I will post them on the forum. I am thinking oil, air, fuel filters, cam belts, spark plugs maybe. If someone can tell me the common parts used during routine dealer servicing I will try to find out the Pug equivalent. Thanks Quote

Maybe you do things differently downunder, but for most DIY drivers here, the last place we go to for service parts is the main dealer. I guess most forum members go to GSF or Eurocarparts where they get exactly the same item as supplied by Cit or Pug, but at half the price. Unfortunately, each supplier uses their own system of part numbers. So a Gates cambelt could have three different part numbers, depending upon who supplied it. Quote
Guest jeffc5 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 We have non dealer parts available but they are not 'genuine' Citroen/Peugeot parts. Because of the relative rarity of Citroen in Australia I would have better luck asking for a Peugeot part, as long as I was reasonably sure I was getting the right thing. Basically, I am sure we are stuck getting genuine parts from dealers. If any Citroen owners with experience in Aust. can point me in another direction I would be happy to hear. (The local Citroen owners site is not as good as this one for information, in case you were wondering why I am not asking there) Quote
