I'm gutted :) Sorry to hear what happened....Just to let you know that during my 3 years with the C8 the handbrake has been adjusted on four occasions by the dealer. My drive is on a slope and I woke one morning to find it on the other side of the road. (Undamaged though!!) I always leave it in gear now. Had the car just had an MOT before you bought it? I don't know where you stand with blame but just make sure you get the handbrake sorted. Once it's been adjusted you'll feel a big difference in the hand brake. I've had to have it seen to within 3 to 4 months of being adjusted so don't expect it to last long though in saying that it's been around 8 months since it was adjusted and it's still okay. I just don't have that much trust in it. Dave Quote
kellyjoanne123 Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 Thanx 4 reply. Still waiting for the car to come back. It did have 12 month mot from dealership. I'm going to take it to independent garage for them to check out and then try to claim losses ie. excess, and no claims from garage. Bit of a pain summer hols with no car  Quote

I'm gutted  The levers on the rear brake unit that are moved by the handbrake cable decome stiff, you think the handbrake is on but its not. the disks cool and contract and off it goes!!You have to replace both units. Brake parts direct.co.uk and many others online are half the price of dealer and will give you 70 each for the old units. Hope this helps Quote

Handbrake was getting very unreliable, so I decided to take a look. One of the cables appeared to be seized due to a very tight turn becoiming dry and full of crud. But this did not solve the problem. After a bit of head scratching I discovered that the bolt (sorry I don't know the technical name fot it) that the handbrake lever swivels on, at the rear of the lever where it meets the floor, had fallen out!I've never heard of this one before! OK it turned out to be a quick and easy fix, but how close was I to seeing it roll down the road without a pilot on board? Quote
techbod Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 http://www.aamembership.co.uk/allaboutcars...&lowIndex=0 not sure if any new recalls or TIS on this problem are in place but worth asking Quote
