IANS Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 I have a 3 ltr 2001 c5 saloon its been off the road for 6 months I am just getting it ready for sale - the suspension lowered once (on command) but does nothing now... The power steering seems fine and no visable leaks have occured My battery was flat?? I have jumped started it - would battery charge level have any effect? I have checked the fluid - seems half way between empty and full - could this be the cause?? Is there any procedure I should follow to get the suspension working again?? The buyers are on their way  Typical :) any help would be much appreciated Quote
shallishanti? Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 If the battery was flat then the pump can't run, I would have thought. Quote
myglaren Posted September 5, 2007 Posted September 5, 2007 Is it an electric pump for the suspension? My assumption was that it employed the same pump as the Xantia/BX/GS, although mine does whirr a bit when it unlocks and can be seen to settle a bit occasionally, and rise when I dive in the bootspace. I realise there is an electrical assist for the rear suspension to adjust the rear height when loading but took it to be just that, an assist for when the engine was stopped. I presumed that it would have been the height correctors that were 'stuck'. Sometimes lifting the car by the bumper will get them going again (while the engine is running) but only as a temporary measure. Quote

Thx for that advice - i will try it :) I have jumped started the car - so thought the battery was a red herring  Quote
Randombloke Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Is it an electric pump for the suspension? Yes. My assumption was that it employed the same pump as the Xantia/BX/GS, although mine does whirr a bit when it unlocks and can be seen to settle a bit occasionally, and rise when I dive in the bootspace. It's very different from the Xantia/BX/GS. It's capable of levelling when the engine is not running. IIRC also that drive belt arrangements changed quite a lot from BX to Xantia, as the BX ran the pump off the end of camshaft, whereas XU(D) engines fitted to Xantias had different arrangements, and the DW10 engine is totally different full stop.
