Plipping Key No Longer Working

Recommended Posts

My electronic key stopped working for no apparent reason. Took it to the local dealer and he advised me to get the keycode and the spare key to them so they could reprogramme it. (Couldn't explain why this had happened - just said it sometimes does it)!

I couldn't find the keycode so he looked both ways and said they would try and fix it using a 'cheat'. Disappeared with my key and 5 minutes later it was sorted out.

This was about 8 weeks ago and it has just gone again.

Does anybody out there know what this 'cheat' was so that I don't have to traipse back to the dealer and whisper at him in hushed tones.....

I always change batteries in plips at the first sign of any hassle. When replacing the batteries I make sure the contacts are as clean as possible.

Have you done this?

When I originally took the key into the Citroen Garage they tested the battery and it was fine. I can't see an obvious way of getting at the battery in any case!

If I can get at the battery, does this affect the device at all?

Just for info - I seem to have stumbled on the 'cheat' accidentally. I was sitting inside the car and fumbling with getting the key into the ignition when I pressed the door lock button on my key. The doors locked. I pressed open and hey presto, they opened and the key fob has been working ever since.

Did you have your key in the ignition at the time, and if you did was it switched on?

Here are some instructions:

The keyfob can become 'unsynchronized' if the battery is replaced, or the button is pressed repeatedly whilst away from the car.

It can be re-synched by:

1. switch ignition on.

2. press and hold lock button on keyfob for 10 seconds

3. turn ignition off

full key programming can only be carried out with a programming tool (to add new keyfobs)

Hope this helps!

I didn't have the key in the ignition. I was just about to insert it, and accidentally pressed the lock button on the key, and lo and behold the doors locked. I unlocked and locked them a couple of times with the fob and when I finished going to wherever it was I was going to.... I managed to lock the car from the outside as normal. The plipper has failed again in the meantime, and I have successfully fixed it by holding the plipper by the steering column and repeating the process. I am now a much happier chappy!
