Bucklejuice Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Please could anyone inform me of the output from a standard Citroen Saxo 1999 model radio? I have just purchased new 200w speakers and am concerned that they will not work correctly, although I plan to upgrade to a new head unit. Cheers in advance!! Quote
tronboy Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 About 15Wpc! If you use high power quality speakers with this unit, the amplifier will possibly damage them at high levels due to 'clipping'. Change the head unit or buy a decent booster amp. Quote
Bucklejuice Posted December 1, 2004 Author Posted December 1, 2004 I also contacted Citroen re this problem and they have quoted me 35w. Does this seem unlikely? I have now fitted the back speakers (with a bit of difficulty!) ans they work although they are only marginally better than the standard ones that had slightly blown. When I play them for a prolonged period of time the sound quality apperas to deteriorate. Would buying a new head unit with 45w output (As recommended by the speaker) ensure clear sound to them? I have seen a Sony one for about £90 and don't want to go wasting my money if it won't make much difference!! Cheers Quote
n_olympios Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Not a chance for 15 Watts per channel, let alone 35W! :) These units (in general, not only those in Citroens) usually output around 4*7-8Watts RMS @ 4Ohm. This is what you should always be looking for in a unit or amp. The "35W" quote from Citroen is probably the MAX rating, which means nothing really. The latter is also for power ratings on speakers. You're much more likely to damage a speaker when using too little power, than you are when using too much power. I can explain why if you want me to. <_< Quote
