Guest thurstan Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Hi, I have been having problems with my alarm going off in the night (C8 HDi SX). It is going into the garage again for this - seems to be a door misaligment problem which keeps recurring. My question is, I thought until it gets fixed, it might be a good idea to disconnect the battery overnight. When I have done this I had some problems getting the key fob to work and the immobiliser to switch off. With fiddling around it seemed to come right, but the garage say there is a risk the data in the computer or fob gets corrupted and needs a main dealer reset - presumably at some cost as well as towing fees! Is this true, or provided I follow correct procedure (whatever that is!) will I be able to manually unlock the door, reconnect the battery and then restart? Thanks, David Quote
kfk Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Disconnecting the battery on modern cars can cause a variety of problems if when reconnected the computers arnt reinitialised. The thing is everyone thinks were just tyrying to have them over when we say its not a 5 minute job any more. Stalling problems, noisy engines, windows not auto closing, mirrors not folding, gearboxes changing gear eratically, engine management system faults, satelite navigation faults and as you have found imobilizer faults, all potential problems caused by disconnecting a battery and not reinitializing everything after the memorys have been lost. Guest thurstan Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Thanks for that info, but can you advise whether I can reinitialise safely myself so all works OK, or is it just the fact that I can't disconnect the battery without going to a citroen garage? Not saying that anyone is trying to have me over, but it seems a bit of a design flaw when modern cars are even more likely to suffer from flat batteries because of all the electrical loads. Tjamls. Davod Yup, we had this fault too!!!! Ours was not caused by anything more complicated than the extra child rear view mirror. Leave it down when parked, alarm may go off, put it away when parked, absolutely fine.......if only all C8 faults were that easy to fix!!!!!!!! Quote
Guest angie23 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Hi, I wonder if you can help? I've put another posting on this forum already... Our car was snowed in and when we dug it out the battery was flat. We re-charged it and put it back in and now we have an immobiliser fault. How do we fix it? Quote
