I have a 1996 ZX 1.9D estate. In June the electric sunroof packed up without warning - I closed it on leaving the car, came back two hours later - not working. it has not worked since - at all.

It's not the fuses; my garage has checked these. When these things pack up like this without warning, is there a commonly experienced reason? I'm wondering if I can investigate the prob myself, rather than have the garage strip the roof down to find it.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

I am new to this car. Mine is a 1996 ZX 1.9D Turbo Avantage. Great car in every way, but:

Yesterday, on tour from Stavanger, Norway, to Haugesund, I accidentally pushed the sunroof button and opened 10 cm (sliding back). When trying to close the sunroof, nothing happened. Quite a windy drive home in strong gale. Covered opening with plastic.

Today I used the switch and slid the window all the way back, thinking the forward mechanism would engage. It did not. Now stuck in fully open position, and we have a blizzard. Back on with plastic cover, etc.

No help from the car manual. What to do?
