pandp Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Just an update on my heater situation. I have a citroen 1.9TD 1998. When i purchased it i found the heater to blow slightly warm. Now it blows cold all the time. I have been advised to change the pollon filter which i intend to do this weekend (once i find where it is). The temp reading still reads -:-, which it has done since i purchased it. Before i do it i just wanted to check that the filter is the cause. As the mornings are getting frosty i need to get the heating sorted. Any info would be greatly appreciated Thank you Quote
smokescreen Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Are you talking about OAT (outside air temp) reading or onboard demanded temp on a climate controls showing --? Either way, I suspect this might be your problem. Regards Smokescreen Quote

mikefisher Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 [quote Sorry, not an answer to this! but i have the same problem in that my heater only blows slightly warm even when the guage is reading 90 degrees or above! i bled the cooling system using the valves in case there was an air lock in there but still to no effect. There is a gurgling sound from the heater matrix too so i am thinking there must be a blockage somewhere there or an air lock i cant seem to remove.I hadn't heard about this pollen filter idea but don't see how that could prevent thew heat coming through? surely there would be limited air flow if that was the case. Again, anyone with some info on this would be appreciated, i'm getting sick of driving half way to work wiping the screen with my sleeve! Thanks Mike Quote

Thanks MikeHi Mike, I do not get a noise from the matrix but the air coming through the top vents is not very powerful. I have just bought a pollen filter, from ebay £12.50 delivered so i will try it. Like you Mike, i'm sick of the wet sleeve every morning. Quote
kfk Posted October 19, 2007 Posted October 19, 2007 Are you sure the cooling sytem has been bled properly? looking t the picture below see if you can go make a funel using an old washing up liquid bottle (a bit of blue peter here), and use it to raise the water level above your engine height, follow the instructions on the picture. http://www.citroendata.co.uk/models/2001/2001_xantia_xm_synergie/images/2001_xantia_xm_synergie_Page_133.gif Quote

I take it the 'plunger' type thing in the bottle on the diagram isn't needed? Just the washing up liquid bottle. WIll give it a shot. Also, i noticed the gurgling sound the most when the cooling system is under most pressure (4000RPM or so on motorway) which leads me to think its an airlock. Will post again when i've had a go at that, Thanks Mike Quote
Guest sirdrinksalot Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Dont want to sound to dramatic but i had this problem with my 94 xantia. No matter how many times i blead the system it still blew cold. I ended up having to change the heater matrix this would have cost a fortune at citroen but the matrix was only £40 or so and i took it upon myself to change the matrix myself, Very long winded but cured the problem Quote

mikefisher Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Hi there, Is hose pressure and rad. flush going to be good enough to flush the matrix out? Any tips on how to do it and will that even work?It isn't worth replacing it at £400 so does anyone know of any 12v car heater/fans that plug into the cig. that are any good!? most reviews are poor at best.
