Dermotjh Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Hi folks I have a 2002 C5, am having a problem starting the car. Full power in car, no problem with radio, lights, electric windows etc....nothing going to engine. Fuel gauge reads no problem Problem started 2 weeks ago. Turned on alarm, then off again and car started no problem. Next day a delay of about 20 seconds before it started. Next day 30 seconds before engine started. This then increased to 5 mins and then 30 mins. Anyone have any ideas Thanks Quote
kfk Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Give us clue time.........is it petrol or diesel....what engine size? when it doesnt start does the engine just turn over and over or do you just get a clicking noise? Have you put fuel in it during the last 2 weeks or was the last time you put fuel in 2 weeks ago?..........did you put the correct fuel in it?.......go have a sniff of the fuel. Do you get an orange 'key' symbol on the dash or does it go out when the ignition is left in engine running position? Quote

Hi Its a 1.6 Petrol I get a clicking noise...no other sound No problem with fuel, gauge shows 3/4 full, only ever put unleaded petrol into it Key symbol goes out when left in running position. Only other symbol is a red cirlce with a dashed red circle around it. Don't have a manual!!!! Thanks Dermot Quote
72dudes Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Its a 1.6 Petrol I would suggest it's a 1.8 petrol - to my knowledge they never made a 1.6, certainly not for UK Sounds like starter motor problem, but I'll let kfk or iannez give a more informed answer. Quote
kfk Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Check battery connections are secure Make sure the earth on the gearbox is secure try connecting a jump lead from the battery negative terminal to the engine - if the car starts suspect the negative battery lead. Check for voltage on the small wire to the starter motor......voltage should be there when cranking Check for voltage at the large lead on the starter motor let us know what you find next...... Quote
