Guest Chilie Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I have just bought a 2001 C5 2.2 HDI with 51k on the clock, Im currently identifying all the problems that the previous owner failed to fix and have a problem with the drivers seat belt not rewinding once released, this has a habbit of getting trapped in the door upon leaving the car. Has anyone else had the same problem and is a repair possible without replacing the mechanism? the Main Stealer wants £160 to replace the entire mechanism. I expect im gonna have the useual particle filter and eloys fluid issue as well before long, guess I should have done more research before buying. Been quoted £375 for the eloys and filter job at the same place, im close to trading it in as there are also a few other bits and pieces that niggle me. Squeaky wipers and loose gear knob. Worst of all I cant find a workshop manual to give me the info to tackle these jobs myself. Quote
myglaren Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Try and find a local citroen specialist and try and get some feedback from customers.I have used the same Citroen specialist for years, since my BX threw a gearbox. They always do an excellent job at very reasonable prices. If they spot a small problem they usually just fix it and don't charge. They always give me an itemised list of all work carried out and keep any parts they have changed for my inspection. It is true that they don't have the dealers resources but they have the knowledge and experience to do most of the servicing and repairs.More than anything they are trustworthy and will always say if they aren't up to doing something that needs the dealer, or an auto-electrician, to perform the task satisfactorily. The price quoted for the eolys/filter job sounds pretty reasonable though. Incidentaly, my seatbelt suffers from the same problem but I hadn't really given it much thought. It does retract but takes about 20"~30". I rarely use it so it makes no odds. Passed the MOT recently anyway. 51k on a 2001 isn't bad. My 2002 has 118k on it now. Quote
iannez Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 pull the belt all the way out and spray it with some silicone spray/bumper buffer. Quote

iannez Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 spray the whole belt mate. let it soak in and then give it a wipe with a cloth.most of the clothes you buy have a light coating of silicone. Quote
72dudes Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Must be a common problem, my 2001 51 model does the same - off to try this later. As someone else said, it passes the MOT but is just annoying!Cheers iannez! Quote
Guest Chilie Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 pull the belt all the way out and spray it with some silicone spray/bumper buffer. I have ordered some silicone spray specifically for textiles off flea bay, my local spares shop was trying to sell me some spray grease as they didnt have any silicone spray! Not sure i wanted that rubbing off on my clothes so I decided not to bother. Quote

Guest Chilie Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 pull the belt all the way out and spray it with some silicone spray/bumper buffer. Just did this with the silicone spray, I also removed the trim panel and sprayed some WD40 onto the winder mechanism. Now almost as good as new! Many thanks it was really niggling me. Quote
