Guest ambuman Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Just bought a C5 in a private sale, and when trying the switches, the hazard lights switch wont switch off. I have to prize the switch out and then push it again to turn the lights off. The lights sometimes come back on when the the plipper is used to open the doors and once again the only way to stop them is to prize the switch and press again, and prize out again. Has anyone had the switch off and if so, how do you get it off? Quote

Guest ambuman Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Can I suggest some switch/contact cleaner from Maplins? Thanks, but that was one of the first things I tried. But to no avail. The switch has to be prized out to work, but them it won't every time, so now it is flashing all the time. Quote

It may be that the relay that drives the whole thing has croaked, but without knowing your model I can't try and find it in the RTA manual. Find the relay from the ticking sound and maybe reseat it. It may just be loose. It seems like getting to the hazard switch will require removal of the radio and the surround that includes the plastic around the radio and vent/climate control, including the vents at the top. In my manual this is all one large piece of plastic. The two fixing screws are behind the buttons for the central locking and disabling the ultrasonic movement sensor in the car. You may need to remove the radio, maybe not, and then you have to gently unclip the plastic around the outside. When it comes out, it will include the two vents at the top and the hazard is mounted and connected behind that. This is for a phase 1 (up to 2004) diesel C5. I checked in my car that when I lock or unlock the car the hazard lights flash but the button on the dash does not illuminate. It does not seem to be affected by locking or unlocking. Quote
iannez Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 the relay for this will be in the bsi. it is not realy a switch. when you press it it sends a signal to the bsi and the bsi activates the hazzards. press it again it sends the same signal and the bsi de-activates them. sounds like the switch is sticking in so when you de-activate them it sends the signal and the contact is still made but because only 1 signal has been sent the bsi only turns them off. when you turn the car off the bsi shuts down but when you open the car the bsi is woken and because the switch still has a contact a new signal is sent turning them back on. if anyone can understand this bable please let me know because i have just read back through it and its confusing me. Guest ambuman Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Can I suggest some switch/contact cleaner from Maplins? I know it is a bit late, but thanks a lot for your help on this matter. I have now repalced the switch with a new one, which took a few days to order, but with your diagrams and a couple of hours work the car is now fully functional. Thanks again for the help. Quote
