Hi all.

Apologies in advance for the length of this post.

I've just bought a 2002 C5 1.8i LX.

I've got some questions that I hope people here can answer - i've scanned the boards but not found the answers to these...

Lights:

After driving at night for a few hours with the headlights on, when I turn them off, a lot of condensation forms on the inside of the headlight glass. Does this happen to anyone else, and if so, is there a solution?

Suspension:

When the car is stationary or moving very slowly, I can adjust the suspension with no issues. When the car is moving any faster, the green suspension light in the rev counter is lit up. When I try to either lower of heighten the suspension, the light above or below the green light flashes, but then it remains on green & the suspension doesn't change. The only reference the manual has to this is that the suspension should be adjustable whether the car is stationary or moving. Also, after driving for a while the suspension level light in the rev counter goes out, is this normal?

Brakes:

When I've been driving for around 10 miles, the brakes start to squeal like hell when depressed lightly. The squeal usually stops if I apply more pressure. I wasn't worried about it at first, as it didn't sound that bad, but hearing it with the windows open is deafening! The car passed it's MOT with no issues a few days ago, so the brakes must be in good condition - I've read things on the board regarding copper grease? Does this work for all types of squeaks?

Alarm:

Even though the car was advertised as having an alarm, it doesn't. Does anyone know the cost of having an alarm fitted & integrated with the key fob? Wouldn't want to carry around a load of buttons on my keys!

Immobiliser:

Reading the manual about the immobiliser, it says that when the key's inserted & turned, the amber immobiliser light should light up on the dash, then go out when the engine is started.

When I do this, it flashes for a split second but then goes out immediately. Does this happen to anyone else or should I get the immobiliser checked out?

Body:

The rear bumper is ciming away a little bit at the tight hand side. It seems to be really solid where it is - I can't shoft it. Does anyone else have any experience with removing/re-fitting bumopers, or should I take it to a body shop?

I'm sure I'll find some other little niggles at some point, but that's all for now!

----------------

EDIT: - I've found another little niggle... Obviously with it being quite cold here there's no need for air con yet, however I just thought I'd better turn it on to see if it worked. It made an incredibly loud noise, almost like a 'fridge turning on, then it constantly sounded like a boiler running, very noisy. The air coming out of the vents also felt warmer than the air outside if anything!! Is this normal for the time of year? Can't image the air con would do much in this weather anyway, it's the noise that's really worrying me. The car only has a one month warranty so if there's anything wrong I need to identify it & get it fixed ASAP.

Thanks again.

-------------------

Thanks,

Tez

You can't drive faster than 24kph in the first raised position and 6kph in the second (highest) position.

If the car is moving at greater speeds than these it will ignore requests to adjust the ride hide. If the ride height is increased then one of those speeds reached, the car will override the setting and return it to normal.

As regards the other issues, I have never encountered them so have nothing to offer there, sorry.

I had squeaky brakes on mine, swapped them for mintex discs and pads all round no squeals now. Not come across any others but i could check the immobiliser light later on tonight.

just checked my immobiliser light, goes off almost instantly, my book says it goes out as soon as its confirmed you've got the correct key which should take the immobiliser milliseconds

the bumpers on c5s come off easy you have to pull the trim in them off,the air con does,nt work if its to cold outside.your brakes sound like they just need cleaned and some copper grease on the back off the pads.

Thanks for your reply!! Does the air con usually sound like a fridge/boiler? I was mainly wondering whether it might be low on gas.

Cheers.

Flaming heck, just noticed something else!

Think the wiper electrics might be going... Sometimes when I pull the stick back to wash the front windscreen, the front wipers move but it squirts down the rear screen, then sometimes when I turn the knob to wash the rear screen, the rear wiper doesn't do anything... Until I turn the knob to the off position, then it starts to wipe! I then have to turn the knob to the on position then the off position to get them to stop again!

I only seem to have this issue the first time I use the wipers on a journey, the rest of the time it's fine.

Anyone know how to fix electrics on a C5?

Cheers.

Seems all PSA cars have minor issue with the wipers being left in the auto position. If you leave wipers in auto, turn off the engine then come back, on starting even if the wiper is in auto mode it doesn't work as such.

Returning the control to off then selecting auto cures this. I also turn off the rear wiper and turn back on. MY 1996 406 does the same on front wipers.

If problems persist in this area it's possibly a COM 2000 fault and expensive. You may be able to clean the wiper tracks on a COM 2000 unit and clear the fault, but I must admit I've not tried. Should you wish to try I can sell you a second hand COM 2000 unit with an airbag fault on it, which may be just a wiper.

the air con might need recharging if you go under the bonnet and feel the air con pipes one should be hot the other pipe shopuld be freezing.

HI again all.

Going on a long journey tomorrow so wanted to make sure the tyre pressures are right. Looked in the manual & lo & behond, there are no pressure guides in there!

Does anyone know the right pressures? Also, is every C5 fitted with tyre pressure monitors? If not, is there any way to tell if mine has them?

Thanks.
