Recently had to replace the battery on my 99 xantia 19td, it had let me down and had to bump start it. After the bump start the rev counter spun right around and has stuck over to the right, anyone know how to put this right?

Thanks

Hi, get a length of strong wire like fencing wire which is normally green with metal inside.

Where the button is to reset the milage poke the wire in it (just enough space to put it in), next bit is a bit fiddly. You have grab or hook the needle and pull it back round to zero. Job done. Will work perfect after that. Common fault when you havedisconnected the battery.

Or try disconnecting and reconnecting battery again......or get a strong magnet and hold it against the diplay to force needle round.

Hi there, I've just bought myself a Xantia that's got exactly the same problem. I haven't tried it yet but a Citroen breaker told me that just giving it a sharp tap should free it. You will probably need to get out the instrument panel to do this. I've got to replace a few panel bulbs as well so I'm waiting until the weather gets better. Oh for a garage!

As I was looking for a replacement tacho I think the breaker was telling the truth as he described the cause you mentioned as well.

Best of luck.

Your best bet guys is to use the wire trick, bit fiddly but I guarantee it'll do the job! Just pull it back round to zero.

Big job to change the bulbs, steering wheel and airbag have to be removed first! Wouldn't start banging things, you don't know what other problems you might un-earth.
