Bought an ex demo C5 on 2002, with 8,000 on the clock

at 2years 11 months 2 weeks and 56,000 miles cam belt failed, fortunately citroen replaced the engine for free (although it was off the road for 4 weeks)

Now at 127,000 miles (71,000 miles on the engine) it has happened again. waiting to hear if I have trashed the engine or if it can be fixed.

Anyway that's it for me I'm off to buy a Jaguar S-type

Why did your cambelts fail?

Mine failed at 73000miles because it had been wearing on the inside (engine) edge until it failed in tension when only 15mm wide (original 25mm). I rebuilt the cylinder head myself for about £400 of parts (rockers, valve seals, tappets, various gaskets etc).
