streaky Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 can anyone give me some pointers please. unsure how long the belt has been on my car so going to change it for peace of mind. i've not had much experiance of diesel's and there belts so is this an easy job or do i need a locking tool so the pump does not move when the belt is removed? and do you have to lock the engine or just line it all up to tdc? and any other things that may cause problem like sticking pulleys etc as will be doing this on my drive at home also is ok to just change the belt or get a kit which has tensioner in it as well? my car is a P reg 1.9 tdi with no air con and has covered 160,000 if this makes any difference. any tips or how too will be very welcome thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 The only locking tools you'll need are three 8mm bolts about 50mm long for the two pulleys, and a length of 6mm rod suitably bent to lock the flywheel. Loosen the crank bolt with the engine hot. Might be a bit of a struggle. Use a jack under the sump before removing the top mount. Turn the engine on the crank shaft until all the bolts and rod enter the holes. I've never found it necessary to replace tensioner or water pump before 80000 miles, but in view of your mileage, I would renew both. Also fit a new auxiliary belt. Quote
