petty Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Hello all The Alternator has developed a fault on my 2.2 HDI SX (2001), and will not charge the battery. Does anyone have a guide or set of instructions on how to remove from the car? I can obtain a service kit to repair the Alternator just cannot work out the best way to remove from the car! Thanks first thing to do is to disconnect the negative cable of the battery and remove the serpentine belt from the pulley on the alternator. follow the instructions here, ehow.com. Quote
old'uns Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 first thing to do is to disconnect the negative cable of the battery and remove the serpentine belt from the pulley on the alternator. follow the instructions here, ehow.com. well mine has finally given up, squeaking & groaning this morning, at least the water system wasn't frozen!opened bonnet, thought about taking it off, 'F**k this...too cold', rang garage, in on the 30th luckily i've got 2 other cars to choose from :) not done too bad i suppose, not far off 8 yrs old & 191k Quote
old'uns Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 oh well, surprise surprise.....went out earlier to start car ready for tomorrow, all ok, thought i'd turn it round & put battery on charge overnight...no power steering!open bonnet...belt hanging off, removed to look at it... no grooves left on it! looks like phone call to the 'non-drinkers' in the morning to see if if i can get it recovered to garage Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Got to raise this question now. Does it still need a new alternator.?. With the ribs in the belt gone it would still turn the alternator but not fast enough for to charge it Quote
old'uns Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 i would assume so?real horrible noises last time drove it, brushes worn out & wire/spring only left, then went silent?.been out today to clean up grooves on pulleys & try to put old belt on temporary to get to garage.failed miserably, seems as though belt is 6" too long? stretched but not broken possible?i did put it around the 2 tensioners properly i assume ie smooth/outer discovered a bit of side play on power pump as well so will look at that, been a few odd noises from that when starting up Quote
coastline taxis Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 It will be the routing of the belt. most of them now are unbeliveable they way they go on sometimes easier to go on the krypton factor than put a belt on ha ha Quote
old'uns Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 finally got it back, new alternator, belt , labour etc £230never knew the needle went round that far, i could be posting about boiling battery soon! Quote
