hi there

i was wondering if anything can be done about the dipped headlights on my citroen xantia 1996 N reg. They seem to be quite dim when they are on! I have put in Halfords Super Brillance bulbs and they seem not very bright. Why?

I used to have a 2.1 Xantia and I was never very impressed with the headlights. Even worse when they were masked for Europe driving.

so did u change them? where you get them from?

I replaced with these:-

I found them only slightly better. Note that if your Xantia is earlier than 1998 you'll need H1 bulbs. 1998 and later use H7

The early Xantias have headlights that can be dismantled. ie the glass can be replaced separately from the lamp. Take the headlights out, remove all the glass retaining clips and take off the glass. You will see a deflector in front of the dip beam lamp. Bin it! replace the glass (you'll probably need to replace the sealing strip as well) and you will notice a HUGE difference in light performance.

Cheers. Hope this helps. Colin

Big improvement can be had by using relays to shunt electricity direct from battery to globes. I used 50 amp hifi cable to do it on my Xantia. The relay is triggered by the old wiring to the globes. Did it for both hi and low beams. I have a circuit diagram tucked away in my backups. Circuit diagram for headlight shunt relays
