could anyone be so kind as to offer their help please. am driving a 2003 xsara vtr

just had to replace the alternator on it as it died completley. but now the battery doesnt get any charge at all. the battery is less than a year old and holds charge when plugged into the house chargerwhen fully charged it will start the car 4-5 times but then the car refuses to start untill i bump itr when i try wityh the key it goes to and the just stops. PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME SPARE

I would suggest that the alternator is not charging the battery then. Have you had a voltmeter across the battery terminals when the engine is running? You should get around 13.8v if the alternator is charging. There may be a fuse in the system somewhere that has blown? I would have to look in the manual to double check that.

Is the battery charge lamp illuminated when the engine is running?

Check wiring from the alternator to the warning light to make sure it is ok. If the warning light bulb has blown it will cause a no charge situation.

How did you decide/who told you that your alternator wasn't working? It sounds to me as though you've replaced a good alternator with another one.

the rac guy told me and on the last mot they said my bearings in the alternator were on their way out
