Guest argyll1 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Hi everyone.1st time on this site I wonder if anyone has had a problem with the c5 accelerator pedal height and positioning.just aquired one 2 weeks ago.ex company car, and the rep who had it, complained of a bad back while driving , also a sore right leg.(has bought a peugot now instead!!)I had a xantia for ten years and the pedal was the same height as the brake and clutch - however on the c5 I have just bought, it is 1 and a half inches lower and my foot has to travel 20-30 degrees further to make contact.also the pick up is much slower.it is a 53 plate 2.ltr turbo diesel hdi - can anyone give me some answers or a similar experience??. Also I read earlier that someone had a problem with the lights dimming and or failing.this rep had to have the headlamp bulbs replaced no fewer than five times in the first 2yrs.apparently the problem was solved by replacing them with "high voltage bulbs" which the "new service manager" said was an inherant fault recognised by citroen head office, but never acknowledged!!! thanks Quote
monkeyfeet Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hi argyll1, My first time on this forum too.Yours was the first post that I read, and I've today only just adjusted the throttle cable on 'er indoors 2.2 '52 plate C5!The pedal position was also too low, but it was the free play that made me want to adjust it in the first place. On the 2.2 the throttle sensor is under the fuse / management unit, nearside engine bay (next to bulkhead on battery side)To properly get to it I had to remove the black plastic covers, take out fuse holder and undo 2 10mm head bolts. You will now be able to move aside the plastic compartment covering throttle cable / pot.I had to move the adjusting clip a good inch + worth of notches, thers's still free play, but the pedal won't quite touch the stop now (that's what I wanted) and moved the pedal position back in line with the other pedals.Hope this helps. Bizarrely said rep may now have a Peugeot with more or less the same floor pan design as the previous Citroën, e.g 406 and Xantia, 407 and C5. I had 2 sh*te old BXs and the throttle was lower than brake and clutch. I have know 2 C5 owners who have had issues with stretched throttle cables. However, the travel on the C5 is rather on the short side. If pick up is slower it would be worth just have a look at the intake side of the manifold(s) for leaks, as this would reduce turbo pressure. It may also be that the MAP sensor is tired or disconnected, although I think you would get an error message for this. I've had the MAP sensor left disconnected after a service on a 406 2.1TD, and it did affect take up mostly between 1,500 and 2,000 rpm. Quote

Guest rcihjenn Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 I too have just bought a high-miler and found the pedal a problem. Yep, the potentiometer is right over on the O/S, under and alongside the air filter - the legacy of the original conversion to right hand drive, I guessThis arrangement means that the cable has a long and torturous route, and stretches over time.If you take the pot off its mount (as said b4, 2 x 10mm bolts on the underside -not difficult), you can adjust the circlip, which slips over the "corrugated" plastic stop piece, to take up as much slack as you wish. -It's a lot clearer when you have it in front of you! I just took off the air cleaner body, leaving the electronics tray in place.I took the opportunity to lube the cable and the potentiometer spring, but the throttle is still "sticky" and lumpy. Why on earth this long cable was put in, when all that was needed was to run a longer electrical connection to the N/S of the bay, and mount the pot forward of the pedal, I can't work out.I'm considering a "mod" to achieve this - does anybody have a spare pot from a breaker they want to move on - I'd like to experiment on a spare!?I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has tried this, or put in a pedal potentiometer as fitted to the pug 307?It's a fiddle to get to the pot, but not at all complicated!bets of luckrichjenn13 Quote
