2.2hdi Engine Questions

Hard to tell if this belongs in this section or technical, oh well!

Until the weekend comes around again there's barely any time to study what's under the bonnet of my 2.2HDi, but I do have several questions about what I have found. If only there was a Haynes...

There seems to be an intercooler bypass circuit. I presume this is for a DPF regen, so the exhaust is as hot as possible? In this circuit is a metal pipe which seems to be an air/water heat exchanger. At one end a water pipe seems to come from or near the thermostat, the other end disappears into who knows where. What is this for?

Does the SX model (with dual climate control) have some method of providing heat without relying on a hot engine? service.citroen.com mentions heater models with "automatic additional heating". Compared to all other cars I've had, the hoses to the matrix are tiny - I can't imagine there's much of the engines coolant circulated through here. Is heat provided by some other means, than pumping all the coolant through the matrix? service.citroen again has a diagram of a 'water reheater' for automatic additional heating, but I don't know where this is IF I have it. If it exists, how does it provide heat?

Where the heck is the throttle - or are these cars entirely drive-by-wire? In which case, is there anything I can play with to rev the engine while under the bonnet?

Where is the EGR valve - or is the EGR system a collection of electrovalves all over the place?

Hi ...

I have a 2003 2.2 HDI SX auto , the throttle is controled by a potenciaometer(god knows how to spell it ) and its late now ! , anyway there is a cable that goes from the pedal to this which is located down the right side(standing in front of the car) between the engine and the battery/fuse boxes towards the bulkhead ..

Haven`t a clue about the other stuff ...

Cheers

Ray

Ah, so it is all drive-by-wire. Very cool stuff.

I've had another look inside with the torch just now (yeah, I have no life!) - seems the heater matrix IS fed from the main coolant circuit. Having looked at some diagrams on service.cit, I thought the two narrow hoses leading to something at the top rear of the engine bay (with three wires going there too) had something to do with the coolant / heating. Maybe they still do if there's an additional heating system?

All very mysterious. It's quite scary how many hoses snake around each other - vacuum, oil, water, fuel, brake, LDS... who knows what else!

According to the French manual the C5 has the ability to either intercool or warm the intake air.

This what the extra pipework is for.

The French manual IMV is worth getting.

No doubt, but I don't fancy learning French just to read it :)

There are a large number of pictures, which some other members of this forum have found very helpful despite speaking or reading no French.

Or wait for the Haynes manual. Don't hold your breath. :)
