old'uns Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 after having all the loss of power, surging, etc for approx 2 yrs on & off, i'm now back to normalish  messing around under bonnet last week, thought intake pipe was a little loose, phoned up my mech. who then remembered he should have replaced MAF at last service but wasn't in when i picked up car.MAF replaced, £100, now drives how i remember it when first had it.pulls in all gears easily, nicer all round.i think sometimes you just get used to things without realising it. Randombloke Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Mass Air Flow(MAF) sensors, and MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors can really f**k up your car if disconnected or knackered. Apparently there have been a number of problems also on VAG 1.9/2.0 fours and V6s with these issues and they do not always appear on diagnostic checks. Quote
old'uns Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 quick update: looks like i'll be getting 50+ miles per tank extra with everyday mixed driving, 600+ instead of 550ish. quick calculation in slow brain, 10% ish? as that well known supermarket says...'every little helps' Quote
