Did anyone mention to you about an engine run-in period for the first 1000 miles, by trying to keep the revs down and keep to a reasonable speed :D

Anyway, glad to see you are enjoying your new C1

How did you manage 110MPH when the Book states top speed as 98MPH? Was it down hill wind assisted etc?

I got mine to 95MPH and it struggled and began to feel a little unsafe so I backed off. After owning and driving an MR2 at high speeds I feel that was enough.

Perhaps you should get a job working for the Sun newspaper they have been known for writing a few tall stories lol

Nice to hear you like your car though

i suppose we should all be glad you only bought a C1 if your going to thrash the nuts off it trying to take photos of the speedo......its a sad world where we consider a photo of this to be interesting.

Bench testing means that the engine is tested only for a short time on a bench (test bed), to check it works OK, before it is inserted into the car.

I would say it is still advisable to do a 1000 mile carefull running-in of the car engines components (ie, normal revs and speed), if you want it to run well for the rest of its working life.

It only takes 2 to 4 weeks to do this, and its well worth it.

If we assume that generally speedos are about 10% optimistic, then I guess showing 110 is actually about 98/99. The Citroen quoted top speed.

Why not ask a nice traffic cop to follow you just to make sure, or go through a speed camera at 110.

Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Nig

If you were only doing 3000 RPM then I would imagine your Speedo is out as in 5th Gear 3000 RPM should read 70MPH. Was the other traffic keeping up with you? I had this on MY Toyota MR2 and the speedo said 80MPH but it was actually clocked at only doing 70MPH. I think the maufacturer figures of 98MPH top speed are the give away signs......... Like the car though?

Tighter and better machining now means run in really isn't that needed. And on a couple other forums I frequent it is basically common knowledge that the ones driven hard from day one are the quickest cars. Usually proven by RR days as well.

The engine isn't going to die if it is heated up properly before thrashing it. I know Fiat and a fair few other manufacturers do the equivalent of a 500 mile journey on the engines before putting them into the cars.
