Hi All

First an apology as I am not up to seed with this type of thing and this may well be in the wrong section or some thing of the kind.

I have a problem which I would be more than pleased at any advice. In with the Citroen cars in the family I have a 2002 xsara 1600 hatch which I'm having problems getting a work-shop manual.Haynes have now intention of producing one in the near future.I only want such information on general servicing i.e. spark plug toque, min disk and pad thickness etc

Any ideas?

Hi There Rhett!

I have a 2.0 HDi Xsara Picasso on an 02 plate and have a haynes manual for that. It covers the 1.6 engine, and I don't suppose there's any difference. I was going to scan the relevant page for you but my scanner refused to work due to some software issue so here's a few facts to be going on with.

  1. Oil capacity inc filter. 3.5 ltrs
  2. Cooilng system (approx) 5.8 ltrs
  3. Plugs, Bosch FR7KDC. Gap 0.9mm Torque 20Nm 15lb/ft
  4. Brake pad min thickness 2mm
  5. Disc Thickness. New 20.4mm Min 18.4mm

You could always ask at your citroen dealership if there are a lot of differences between the earlier and later Xsaras and how much of the data from the early manual, which is available, would still be relevant. I would think that the engines, gearboxes, brakes and suspension would be similar enough to be OK. Also major body parts apart from the headlamps, bonnet etc are much the same.

The only Major difference I am aware of is that the early models had a standard wiring system and the later "facelift" models had the newer "multiplex" wiring system. That would render the circuit diagrams useless, but not many people can make head nor tail of them anyway!

Cheers Hope this helps! :(

Get hold of Haynes 3751. It covers the Xsaras from 1997 to 2000. Although our Xsara is a 2002 HDI model, there's a lot of useful information in the early manual.

Many Thanks to all for the help.

The whizkid at my local hot rod type shop assured me that the Picasso manual would be of no use at all even at the loss of the sale but the very kind people at Haynes are going to look into it for me. Until they get back to me I shall use the information kindly provided.

I will keep you informed of the outcome.

Hi again Rhett.

I didn't mean for you to go and get a picasso manual, what I meant was that there is a Haynes manual listed for the earlier Xsaras, from when they came out in '97 until the mk2 in Sep '00. Most of the running gear was carried over unchanged and that was what I meant. Sorry you took me up the wrong way. The manual is number 3751.

Cheers. Hope you find what you're looking for!
