GBR1177 Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Hello AllI recently changed the front pads on my C5 2.0HDi - the result is that I have to pump the pedal- even after letting the new pads bed in for 300 miles now.I didn't undo the caliper bleed nipples before winding the pistons back - was that a mistake?I am going to bleed the brakes to see if that sorts it , although I'm not sure what I could have done to affect the hydraulic circuit- but worth a go!Before I set to it , does anyone know if silicone fluid is OK for these cars. I've used it in my ZX and old Renaults to good effect but I've heard not every car likes the stuff.Cheers Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 DOT 4 is the fluid that's recommended. Silicone may damage the seals, causing them to swell. Also silicone and DOT 4 don't mix. I've heard that it's advisable to open the bleed nipples before winding back. It also stops dirt being pushed into the ABS. Quote
