Randombloke Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Also since this has been happening the rear wiper and screen demister have stopped working !!. There is a plastic cover for the whole wiper and glass release on the inside. It removes easily by hand. Have a look for loose wires underneath it. The boot release wires are soldered there and if either one has come unsoldered and is touching something else then there is your problem. Do a search on the forum for the easy (20 minutes) fix for the rear glass. That might solve your problem also. Lastly, there is a lock mechanism in the lower part of the tailgate. It can be accessed by removing the tailgate trim. Have a look under there to for loose wires or unlubricated mechanisms. Before removing the tailgate trim go to a local Citroen dealer and get some spare clips as you will break one or two removing the tailgate trim. Check the fuses, if they have blown then there is almost definitely a wiring problem. Don't replace them without checking the above, in my opinion. Quote

I had a similar problem after water got into the boot lid switch. This shorted the switch and appears to have damage the management system. Now my central locking does not work properly and the rear wiper operates every time anything electrical is operated within the car!!! The potential cost of the repair means I have just put up with it. Apparently this is not unusual. I hope you have more luck.. Quote

My gut feeling from having seen this happen to GPz1100s is that IF the car wash has actually affected the BSI then the connections at the front of the car to this unit should be checked for tightness and water ingress. Was the car simply washed or steam cleaned? I'd be inclined to disconnect the battery (correct procedure!!) then go through all the connectors with a hair dryer, clean them and then re-connect them all with a very small amount of switch cleaner used. I would also look for evidence of loose wires under the lower tailgate trim and see if there is any evidence of a bodged or hastily removed tow bar. My car has had the Car Giant treatment - seems they just take the tow ball off and cut the 8 way cable with a pair of tin snips. @ Pete - the "wires" for the rear demist are embedded in the "paint" on the rear screen along with the conductors that carry the short to open the rear screen. Might be worth doing some measurements from either of the two switch contacts to the screen heating element to see if there is a short. If you look at the file on Yahoo C5 for rear screen fix then you will seen the yellow wire that is used to open the rear screen. It *may* be worth your while cutting this when you run the new wires. As usual input requested from kfk, iannez and Barbs C1. Quote

The boots screen switch housing definitely had water in it. I now believe because the lid had stopped working some months earlier, that the switch was u/s. When the water enetered, it closed the citcuit and opened the window. Unforunately at the same time it effected other electrical items especially the rear wiper. I have had the car inspected by professional auto electrician (not citroen) who could not find any fault. Incidently it is not now possible to communicate with the onboard computer (2 garages have tried including a citroen dealer). Is it a relatively simple job to inspect the BSI and connections. I do not know where to start. I will start to carry out the "window fix" as sent. Many thanks Quote
